litmus test to know if one is a true believer?

To love doing good deeds, and worry about your bad deeds.

Is there a valid difference of opinions on listening to musical instruments, or are all the madhabs and scholars unanimous in their forbidding of it?

There isn't a consensus, but the other opinion is too weak, and nearly baseless. It is not justified for a layperson to follow that extremely weak opinion and discard the four matthabs.

Could you share your credentials & where/whom you learned from? Every Muslim has a duty to verify they can trust someone before they take knowledge from them.

I haven't had time to write about that before in details, jazak Allah kher for the question/reminder, maybe soon inshaAllah, please make duaa for Allah to make it easy. Meanwhile, this is a brief:
http://thearchive.me/ask/MajedJarrar/c2Nob2xhcnM,/
Every Muslim has the right to verify their teachers, and anyone who takes the knowledge seriously should do it. However, it is not the duty (fard ain) upon everyone to verify every person before they listen to anything they say.

Is it true that although only 1/73 sects in Islam is rightly guided, that 1 comprises the majority of the 1.2+ billion muslims?

Yes. Yes.

As salam alkyum, what is the ruling on praying two rakats after asr, someone told me it is a forgotten sunnah based on, the two hadiths in buhkari. That rasool saw, would pray it in Aisha Ra house. Does this mean we can pray two rakats after asr

alaikum assalam, no.
And not every worship the prophet did is a sunnah.

Is combining Maghreb and Isha allowed for someone who is studying for exams? Sheikh ul Islam ibn Taymiyya says it's permissible if there's hardship, and the prophet combined prayer without fear or rain.

MajedJarrar’s Profile PhotoMajed Jarrar
1. Combining in our mathhab is always not-preferred, except it's neutrally-permissible on the days of Hajj in which combining was prescribed.
2. The imam of the Masjid may combine at the Masjid whether for a direct reason (such as, rain, snow, storms, fear, etc) or no direct reason (such as ice, puddles, etc) The hadeeth doesn't imply that the imam may combine without any reason whatsoever. No companion nor scholar understood it this way. It simply referred that there are reasons beyond rain and fear.
3. It is an evil bid'a to abandon the masjid because the imam combined
4. Combining Dhuhr and Asr as an individual isn't permitted except in eight cases:
a. a traveller who is allowed to shorten the prayer
b. an ill person who will get more sick to pray in the five times, than the three times.
c. a nursing mother - for the repeated najasah of the spit-ups
d. a person incapable of purifying themself every salah
e. a person incapable of knowing the time
f. a woman in irrigular menustration (istihaada, e.g. lasting more than 14 days per cycle)
g. a person who has an excuse in missing congregational prayer
h. a person who has an excuse in missing Friday prayer
and for Maghreb and Isha six additional cases:
i. rain that drenches
j. snow
k. hail or frozen rain
l. ice
m. puddles,
n. winter storm
The excuses in g. and h. were specified by imam al-buhooti to be five:
i. a fear for their life,
ii. a fear for their family,
iii. a fear for their wealth,
iv. a fear for the job they make a living out of
v. something of the same degree.
I have been studying for more than twenty years, studied in three different continents, and finished every stage of my education in the top 5% of my class. The conclusion of my lifetime of studying experience: exam nights are for resting. If there's any advice I could give concerning prayer on exam nights, I'd say to the brother you should want to pray more on that night than your average night.
I ask God to grant us success in this life and hereafter.

Alsalam alikum> Please refer me to commentries on the Prophetic traditions in English. Jazakum Allah khayr!

alaikum assalam, learning Arabic is more important and urgent. As you grow older it'll be more difficult to acquire a new language, but can still acquire knowledge to a much older age.
As the spam emails from Chinese merchants say: Get rid of the middle man!

http://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answers/137361632322 What are the other ways? How far back do we go? And what about converts?

1. They could pray as much as they can every day as long as they it doesn't harm their work, and basic necessities (eating, sleeping etc). Anything else that's not a life necessity should be paused for these days until they're done. It varies according to their physical and spiritual health, and how steadfast is their current prayer. If they're healthy and praying everything on time, and it's just like one month they missed, they can make it all up in 3-5 days. if it's a few years, and they're still struggling, let them pray 1-2 days of prayer per day.
2. Since the day they hit puberty (for boys, sometime between 10-15 years old - lunar calendar)
3. Islam resets anything that was before it, converts don't have to make up anything they missed before the day the said their shahada. But they have to make up anything they missed from the first days of their shahada until they learned how to pray. If they converted before sunset, they were due to pray dhuhr and asr of that day onwards, and if they converted before Fajr, they were due to pray maghreb and isha of that day onwards.
4. Only tell this to someone after they have repented, and started praying regularly. Otherwise if they are still struggling with prayer or not praying at all, it may make them less hopeful in repentance.

Are toys for children that have faces (ex. stuffed animals, etc) permissible in the house, or will they prevent the angels from entering?

They're permissible.

http://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answers/137369686082 Just for clarification, their tag says 100% silk.

Genuine silk would be very expensive to start with (genuine silk costs about $2 per inch of fabric, and these ties sell usually for $50 a piece). But some synthetic silk ties are also expensive. You can tell the difference by touch easily.

(2/2) ... and it seems clear to me that the proofs FOR raising of hands in salah are stronger. In fact, in my heart I believe that is what's correct, and that's an opinion supported by many prevalent scholars such as Ibn Baaz, Al-Albaani, 'Uthaymeen, etc. Can I start following this opinion?

1. The opinion of the contemporary scholars you mentioned may Allah have mercy on them is that of Imam Malik, Shafi'i and Ahmed.
2. You can choose to follow the majority opinion in any matter, given that you understand that any mathhab of these four is valid in all of its opinions. In other words, no matter in any mainstream opinion of these four mathhabs is incorrect to follow.
3. What seems "clear" to you might not be true at all. Your knowledge of proofs, and the precedence of proofs, and the authenticity of proofs, and the conflict of proofs, and the responses and rebuttles, is far too limited to make judgement on what seems or seems not clear. Yes you might think one mathhab has a handful of hadeeths in Bukhari and the other doesn't, but stronger proofs in one mathhab doesn't mean the proofs of the other mathhab isn't strong to a solid level.
4. No one would doubt that the knowledge of imam Abu Hanifa surpasses the knowledge of all the scholars of the past several centuries combined. It should suffice to say that Imam Shafi'i, the most knowledge scholar on earth of his time, said about him: all humankind are dependent on Abu Hanifa in Fiqh.

(1/2) http://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answers/136108112450 I've grown up learning the Hanafi madhab and it's what I follow. I haven't studied all the other madhaahib in entirity. Recently, someone showed me the proofs shown by the imaams of all four madhabs on the raising of hands in salah...

If you're a layperson in Shari'a, you don't need to follow a mathhab, you follow any righteous & knowledge scholars. You don't need to follow one scholar or one mathhab in everything. It is permissible for you to follow a mathhab voluntarily, and would be better for you if you feel that your nafs is influencing your choices.

http://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answers/137286756418 Which madhab is this, and what have the other imaams said on this?

Ahmed bin Hanbal, No one earned the title of "the Imam of the Sunnah" but he, and no one held the status of the defender of the ummah on the day of the fitnah, after Abu Bakr, but he.
The other imaams have said other things :)

Two questions about neckties: 1. I've heard neckties are impermissible to wear, because they represent the cross from christianity. Is this true? 2. Are they permissible to wear if they are made of silk? I've been told the synthetic silk used in this cheap neckties isn't real and is allowed

They're fine. Pure silk is prohibited.

i constantly fear that people who attack our people of knowledge such as yourself Sh. Omar Basyoni Sh. Ahmed Salem Sh. Mohammed Abdulwahed and many more make you not want to answer anymore questions. may Allah protect all of you. I love all of you for the sake of Allah

JazakAllah kher habeebi but this is really inappropriate to put me in their ranks. I spent the majority of my life avoiding the truth, while they spent the majority of their lives learning it. Yes, the four of us are only a few years apart in age, but I am more than a decade behind sheikh @Mohamadabdelwahed in Fiqh, sheikh @BasionyAmr in Aqeedah, and sheikh @Abufhr in awesomeness. These attributes take many years of serious seeking of Islamic knowledge. However, if I meet any of them again inshaAllah I could, however, impress them with my barbecuing skills. ☺
May the Almighty shower you with His love.

Are the missed prayers (qaza umri) from younger days to be made up. Someone I know offers two of each prayer one for now and one for one missed from their earlier days. Is this correct?

yes they must. That's one way of doing it.

I have a very huge exam coming up and I study for it all day starting early. Normally I follow shafi3i Athan tines. I was wondering if it is permissible to follow the hanafi isha time in order for me to pray isha earlier and wake up early to study without being tired.

1. "Very huge" is rhetorically incorrect.
2. You're either a layman, and have no matthab except what your sheikh tells you to do, in this case: no you can't. Or you do follow a matthab, and in this case you can't change your matthab because of a single matter that isn't convenient with your schedule.
3. Hanafi Isha is later than any other matthab. All other matthabs call for Isha when red twilight is gone from the horizon. Shafi'is actually have the shortest time span for Maghreb; in one of their opinions, the entire Maghreb time can be as short as ten minutes.
4. Men pray at congregations in mosques. Women pray at home. (to be more blunt: You shouldn't be asking this question in the first place)
5. I hope you realise, that anyone who read your question understood that study is more important in your life than your prayer. Is this a state you think which pleases your Lord? When prayer is truly your most important thing, you would be asking is it okay to pray for a very long time and be tired for an exam? Rearrange your priorities.

شيخنا أحسن الله إليكم ما "الوقت المتسع" لقضاء رمضان تحديدا؟ هل من تفصيل؟

قبل دخول رمضان الذي يليه.

(Canada citizenship Q) I will do that :D, but I also want to know your point of view for myself :)

Governments are large corporates, you can always switch jobs to something that better suits your life style. Whichever company you're in, don't be a sycophant. Patriotism is ugly in all its forms.

I am studying in Canada and as you know many of us seek the citizenship. The question that I usually get in discussions, why do you want it if you don't agree on their values and their way of life, is not that sort of hypocrisy? I want to know your view of this point. JAK

tell them you like to be hypocrite and move on. #hatersgonnahate 😎
