Who should get an Oscar in the 89th Academy Awards?
nobody. worldly gains like this don't mean anything to me.
there should be an awards ceremony for friendships. the true blue friendships that lasts beyond physical distance, time, and space.
to the friends who have been true to me: you know that nurul loves you for you and all the qualities that you possess.
you are amazing, talented, honest, and so true to yourself. you are also understanding and patient. if you're kind and soft, then I've probably let you see my tears. and if you've loved me back, and you still love me now, you'd probably seen how I smile through my tears.
my father told me, on the night he took me back to my house from uni:
"it's okay that you're crying now, bapak doesn't mind."
he continued soothing me with his steady voice and reassurance.
"change your prayer: give thanks to Our Creator for this illness because it is this medication that is keeping you alive."
I nodded and wept till my heart felt clean enough to absorb his love for me as his daughter.
after I smiled, through glassy eyes, but with a crystal clear heart, he said, "see? where to find a father like this?"
and immediately I hoped that the father of my own children would be as kind and understanding as my own father has been to me.
going back to the question: who do I think should win an oscar? it doesn't matter to me, because I don't care about those things. who I care for are the people who have stepped in and healed my wounds when I couldn't even love myself. their love for me is worth greater than any award.
for the longest time I've clipped my wings. when I failed to love myself, I pulled out my feathers, plucking them out, hurting myself and telling myself that I deserve the pain for being such a horrible example of a human being. this is what happens when I lose myself in the fear of the future. but because I'm a warrior, I try my hardest to hide my bleeding feathers, and the open wounds on my wings.
but, because of the love, generosity, and kindness of my soul mates, they will come to me and embrace my sorrow, wash my wounds, hold my hands. and the special ones will pick up those feathers soaked in blood, clean them for me, and slowly stitch them back up as I learn how to love myself again.
these are my precious soul friends who have left me feeling stronger because of their kindness. they each have their own spool in their hands for me, and when they stitch up my feathers so that I can fly again, they do it out of pure love for me.
if I've told you that I love you, then I mean it. and I will continue to love you, eternally, whole-heartedly and deeply.
