Why is the Dumble Overdrive Special guitar amp so revered?
Dumble was a guitar amplifier manufacturer located in Los Angeles, California. Alexander "Howard" Dumble made each amp personally. Because of this, Dumble amplifiers are the most expensive boutique amplifiers on the used market, and prices have risen rapidly being sold for between $70k - $150k. The Dumble Overdrive Special is a 2 channel 50w or 100w amp with a cascading stage pre amp that is known for producing both a clean and overdrive sound that is harmonically rich, fat, creamy and touch sensitive.
A great example of this sound can be heard on David Lindley's lap steel solo beginning at 2:12 on Jackson Browne's recording of "Running On Empty."
p.s. Sadly both Alexander Dumble and David Lindley have passed away. Enjoy the music.
