Hey there! Could you maybe give some tips how to develop good inside/outside picking in terms of alternate picking? I'm asking because many people tend to have one "favorite" way.

I'm a shredded so I've spent ages just working on technique, but I feel the rest of my playing is lacking massively, where should I begin practicing more "musical" and "relevant" things? What kinds of things should I be looking at to improve?

You think Petrucci often gets overlooked slightly for some of his truly beautiful solos? I mean Razors Edge (fave solo ever), Lines in the Sand, Repentance, In the Presence of Enemies (Pt 1), A Change of Seasons as examples. Same for his rhythm and chordal work. Seems many see him as robot shred :(

So the Gambale Improv book can be more, say, learning cool licks that can be slotted into improv maybe should it suit? Like Maryin Goulding says about scale sequences?

Frank Gambales 'Improvisation made Easier', pretty intense book it seems content wise, you have it, and thoughts? Also, his technique books? I think the treats inside could really help me spice up some of my metal/rock licks as well as harmonic understanding.

Mateee, just checked some Ted Greene videos and my mind exploded. He was explaining some Bach and my days he knew his shit! Gonna hit the theory woodshed and get the guitars and piano fired up. Thanks for the name drop, love it when you get that feeling of motivation from a new source.

So i'm 16 and have been practicing guitar for at least six hours a day since I was like 8 and have been making sure to take breaks and warm up in fear of wrist issues, but for the past month and maybe a little more both of my wrists are always killing me and i've decided now to take a little break.

Any studio trickery on YOUR album? Do you use the best entire take for your solos/rhythms or comp the best parts from different takes? Is that studio trickery?

No trickery - you'll hear that in the solos! 5 takes and the best goes in, warts and all!

You got Al Di Meolas 'A guide to Chords, Scales, & Arpeggios'? If so do you rate it highly, or are there superior publications out there that approach its contents in an easier manner? (Of course that's depending on the individual).

Ted Greene's single not soloing books are the best for this. Hands down.

best advice u ever gave to us on here was to invest in ourselves, bought myself a transcription for the first time and i'v not put my guitar down all day learning the stuff. thanks

When you spend money on something, like a lesson or a book or a transcription. You will study it, you will milk every last bit of information out of it or you've wasted your money. That's what you do if you want to get better.
A pirate has 100gb of guitar shit he's stolen over the years, but rather than working on it all like he should, he's out looking for the next thing he can steal.

Thoughts on Jason richardson(guitarist)? do you think his secret is all the studio trickery? he cant play clean?

He plays great

I don't know much about bidexteral tapping, may you teach what is it exactly ?maybe with a video, thx*-*
