What are the qualities you like about your best friend?
I have many best friends, so I'm going to edit this question of the day a little – what are the qualities you like about your best friends*?
1. the childhood best friends who have stuck around for years:
their complete understanding, acceptance, and tolerance of me as a person. having grown up together with my childhood friends was a process that we got to enjoy. we've seen one another go through the highs and lows in our lives, yet we still manage to cherish the other, and remain proud of our progress as a human beings.
2. the friends who label you as their best friend and uphold their promises to be your best friend throughout teen/youth hood:
most of my SOTA friends fall into this category. despite the distance that lies between us, we're still open and understanding about the struggles we go through – because, well, after passing the six year mark of friendship – it usually means that we become lifelong friends.
3. the madrasah (madrasah meaning the part-time religious school/classes I attended throughout the course of my education) classmates who become my soul sisters:
I just – I can't. these girls are my family. I will always love them even though we've not caught up for years now – and the only updates we have about one another are through social media. when we chance upon each other, a conversation never seems like enough. the qualities I like the most about these girls are their strength and determination to move forward in life, despite all the struggles and hardships they have to go through.
4. the online friends who become best friends due to a series of coincidences:
their stories are amazing, and definitely inspirational. the qualities I like most about these best friends are their zest for life, and how positive and uplifting they are.
5. the colleagues-turned-best-friends:
their wisdom and generosity.
6. the moms of my students who become my best friends:
their strength, grace, and solid life advice (does that count as a quality?).
7. the university course mates who become best friends:
their empathy. we grow through what we go through – and because of their presence in my timeline, I am a better person/student/friend in general.
8. my sisters (best friends by default?):
their courage, independence, and intelligence.
9. my parents:
their patience and kindness.
