Do you have a verbal or written agreement with her about you renting a room? I don't you where you live, but in Texas, if you have a written lease lease , she would not be allowed to evict you, unless there was a breach of the lease. The law may be similar where you are. Regardless if she is your sister and you signed a lease agreement, she cannot throw you out. But if you are in a hostile environment, I wouldn't stay. If she was to throw you out and you have already paid her for the month, she needs to return that money to you. If she doesn't, I would file a claim against her in small claims court. You would be awarded three times the amount of the rent in Texas. I don't know if you would want to take your sister to court. I had a similar situation with my sister owing me thousands of dollars. The judge ruled in my favor immediately. Unfortunately, her money cannot be garnished. If you go through with this, you will first go through arbitration to try and settle out of court. If your sister is not agreeable, then it will be heard by a judge. I have a feeling you will win, but it will have a negative effect on your relationship with your sister. That is up to you. If you want to you can consult with an attorney for free. Some attorney's will give you a free 15 minute consultation over the phone. Good luck.
