I think it deprnds what kind of freelance art you want to do. Like if you want to do editorial illustrations for products or articles, then you have to actively seek the work. Over time you build a reputation and portfolio that makes it easier as people then contact you more for repeat work or from word of mouth.The type I do is character art, and I work off commission. I'm still trying to get more recognition gradually, so that I can have more commissions. More people will want to commission you when they see the work you do for others and want their own from you. So the more your fan base (I guess you could call them that? idk) grows, the more art commissions you'll eventually be asked for. But in the start, it's supper hard ha as no one knows your art as much. So you gotta try and post what you do and actively advertise yourself.I hope any of that makes sense haha.
