I want all homeless animals to have homes where they're welcomed.

This is a commendable wish. Have you tried offering to do voluntary work at an animal sanctuary where you live, walking dogs, etc?

Reading books! I'm reading Daniel Defoe's account of his tour of Britain in 1728 and it's strange to think the area I'm now in (Cromford, Derbyshire) was a rural backwater in his day and roads were notoriously bad so very few non-locals went there.
But later on, the thermal springs at what is now Matlock Bath attracted tourists (many redundant lead miners, laid off when the seams they worked were exhausted, became guides) and then the legendary Richard Arkwright set up two factories here, when at the same time Jedediah Strutt was doing a similar thing downstream.
After the decline of these industries it became even more touristy (my dad and granddad visited me and took half an hour to find a parking space) but is a first-rate place for historians to come to, though Defoe couldn't have had any idea!

Do you have your own hairstylist?

Do I look like someone who can afford to employ a hairstylist, or if I had the money would fritter it away like that?
(No, in case you can't guess!)

Our government is trying to increase men’s retirement age to 75. In Glasgow in Scotland, men’s life expectancy average is 73, technically meaning many men won’t be able to retire before they die. What’s the retirement age in your country? Do you think poorer people should work until they drop?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I'm in the same country as you ;)
My retirement is scheduled to take place at 68 and as soon as I qualify for the state pension, I'll have paid my mortgage off and I don't plan on marrying or having children so I'll clock off the very same day as I get my state pension.
I do think 65-70 is a reasonable retirement age. From what I've heard, 75 was a proposal made in a report, but I sincerely hope the report will be ignored.

I cleaned out 7 years worth of stuff from my closet today- how many times in the past 10-ish years has your style significantly changed? What were some of the fads you liked but have no passed?

I don't follow fashion and wear clothes until they wear out. I was sad a few days ago when massive holes appeared in a Glenn Hughes t shirt I bought in 2008 to celebrate the first time in 32 years that he played in a city I like.

So I can wear it for rough wear when I'm doing my tree planting in Scotland, but will then have to bin it before it totally falls apart.
I have thought fads were a load of shit ever since the late 90s when these were trendy.

And apparently back in fashion!? (Though that was 3 years ago so it's probably gone again, and indeed while I did see people in them a while back I haven't for some time).
The idea of someone actually wearing this as a statement of coolness struck me as so risible that I ignored fashion ever since, and it looks like everyone has caught up!?

Part2......on that question alone, not considering my life, the meaning behind my question, the reason it upset me, or any of the activism I do to make the world a better place for us all. So with that, I'm taking a break from this site. I won't be on much over the next while bc frankly, some people

As I said in my last answer I'm sorry you won't be around as I liked your posts & hope you will come back.

Part1. Recently I sent out a question about a fictional character dying. I just want you all to know that the main reason it hurts so much to see is bc people close to me have died in the same way. Someone jumped to the conclusion that I ****only**** care about fictional deaths, not real ones based

Some people are seemingly professional wrong-end-of-the-stick-getters and, while I know this isn't always easy, I would ignore their offence as any reasonable person already understands what you're saying.
Sherlock Holmes and Little Nell were mourned in the same way
http://victoriancalendar.blogspot.com/2011/01/february-6-1841-death-of-little-nell.html
And I mourn the death of people I haven't met, south as Douglas Adams & Ronnie Dio.
You always struck me as a sensitive & caring sort of person and I appreciate you don't want to upset people but I really such people are so determined to be offended, that the fact you've offended them is no fault of yours.

I've always thought that the song Sunday by Sonic Youth sounded better played at 0.75speed rather than the usual 100speed. What's a song that you would prefer if it was sped up or slowed down?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I don't actually play songs at different speeds to the way they were recorded, but it does sound interesting!
That's one of the reasons I like covers as they re-interpret the original vision, often in strange ways, but it must always be with understanding by a fellow artist; for instance the albums of Townes van Zandt covers by Steve Earle, and by Wino.
Speaking of Wino, here he is doing Motorhead!?
