For 6 years precisely , I used to pierce my self 6 x a week ~ 3x 2 , with blunt wide-bore needles , for haemo-dialysis . .
So . only the one frivolous piercing , no tattoos . . . .
And , no ; never again if I can help it . . . they look dreadful especially on older people ~ only exception is lobe piecing ~

Suffering is entirely UNNECESSARY .
The decent and humane people of this world spend their lives trying to prevent needless and pointless suffering .
Where it occurs (other than illness & accident , it is always religious freaks who deliberately inflict) , they dedicate there lives to alleviate and eradicate suffering .
The evil , spineless cowards of this world , spend their lives inflicting needless pain and suffering , either for their sick pleasure , or out of their pathetic inadequacy . ~ They also through their warped evil religious teaching , brainwash their victims into believing that the pain, fear, and death~ suffering , that they inflicted upon them . . . . (unbelievably) is 'necessary.
People who 'never suffer' , or who are relatively free from suffering are nothing but fortunate . And they are almost always nothing but grateful ; and certainly do their best to show their gratitude .
Inevitably , some ungrateful exist ; of the same calibre of those who are apologists for suffering & other evils that men create .

Is it more important to have a broad knowledge base or a deep knowledge base? Why?

I do believe you need both , a balance ; don't think it can be formulated , it develops from natural need ; you satisfy & fulfil that need by research , learning & practice ~ you go deeper into subjects you like &/or need ; applying in practical situations & circumstance both deepens & broadens . . . . . from need . . . and desire .
To know .
The breadth of knowledge also prepares for what may be round the river-bend beyond our current ken. Or perception .
