I always found it amusing when kids at school complained how they missed the Sehri because no one woke up to the alarm. I thought alarms were redundant, because Amma never needed one. She was always up before everyone, making parathas, while running between kitchen and our bedrooms. She never believed in uniformity so everyone could have most absurd combinations in Sehri. By the time she will sit to eat, the Moazzan will be drinking last glass of his Lassi, by the time Amma would take first sip of Chai, the Moazzan would call God. I always imagined God through Amma's soul and knew He would never mind her taking few extra minutes to hurriedly gulp down paratha and chai. I never wake up to alarms, at the cost of missing deadlines and failing exams, I always prefer my sleep. But you know Amma's inbuilt alarm has ran out of batteries, she wakes up for Sehri but then sleeps away under caresses of the many medicines she takes. But God- Al Raheem, has put Amma's alarm in me. Now, I wake up for Sehris even before Amma's alarm can ring. But unlike Amma, I don’t have many good deeds to trade, so I finish my Sehri before Moazzan calls God.
