Want to make more friends? Try this: Tell us what you like and find people with the same interests. Try this:

How did you feel when you woke up?

A series of nerve endings sent signals to my brain which were perceived as touch.

What mask would you wear to a masked ball?

"You, sir, should unmask."
"Indeed?"
"Indeed it's time. We have all laid aside disguise but you."
"I wear no mask."
"No mask? No mask!"

Are "banter" & "chatting up" the same thing?

Not a 'lad' and never have been but it's my understanding that 'banter' is the sort of male-bonding, talk shit, rip on each other, tell sick/bad/nasty jokes thing, while 'chatting up' is trying to impress a woman with your wit/charm.

Who are your enemies?

There are idiots and there are enemies. 'Enemy' implies a degree of competence that most of them lack. The majority of ill-wishers are still operating under various misapprehensions and are seemingly addicted to me as a bogeyman. I don't think they qualify. I'm not sure who would qualify.

Who in your life do you wish you’d met sooner?

All the friends who have stayed true, so that I would have had them at my side my whole life.

What are you listening to right now?

Legions of dying Vex being mown down by the missus.
Oh wait, we're not allowed to say 'missus' any more are we? Prince William got in trouble for that. So, uh, 'She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed'.

Would you leave your home country for the one you love?

I love England, for all its flaws. The countryside, the people. It's really only our government that lets it down. I would move for a good enough reason, but only to somewhere with some aspects of shared culture - and no Australia, because venomous drop-bear vampires.

What is art to you?

Any creative act from painting a picture to writing a book to baking a cake or designing toilet-paper packaging.

You argue for ethics, but ethics you agree with. Treatment of animals? Fuck ethics there, as long as you get your meat. You handwave it by labeling it 'Preaching'? By telling you billions of animals die in awful conditions? That's fact, flower. Educate yourself.

Ethics that I have come to an informed position on. I care about the treatment of animals but we also occupy an overpopulated Earth in need of food and anyone who thinks pure veganism etc is the answer hasn't thought things through.
Other than, perhaps, dolphins and elephants we don't have any rivals in the consciousness stakes in the animal kingdom. Other animals are less concious in general - though it's a scale. We're omnivorous, to be fully fit and nourished we need to take in animal material (especially during our formative years) and, as an epicurean, the pleasure of eating tasty food and its beneficial effects on us cannot be ignored either.
That it's natural is not enough, but where that interrelates with human health, happiness and the minimising of human suffering - it does have bearing. Should we raise our meat more humanely? Sure. Should we eat less? Sure. Should we stop entirely? Fuck no.
What do you think would happen to all those animals, those species and breeds, if we stopped eating them? From a genetic perspective being delicious is a pretty damn useful survival trait.
We can't - yet - eliminate all animal suffering AND maximise human comfort, pleasure and health. The technology is getting there but - ironically - many of the people who oppose eating meat also oppose food technology and GM which will inevitably lead to an end to the slaughter and eating of live animals.
A cruel irony indeed.
At the end of the day this is much like abortion. If you don't want to eat a bacon sandwich, don't eat one.

Then you sit there and claim to be open to discussion, but trot out ''science-avoiding lentil munchers'' and your bullshit passive aggression on twitter? You're such a fucking hypocrite. No wonder you have 'depression'. You're a fucking cancer. Let's hope for blissful silence from you next 'bad day'

I can make fun of you AND still make a point. If you deny humans are omnivorous (a fact that has played a huge role in our adaptability and survival) then yes, you're science denying. No hypocrisy here, but you're not interested in the reasoning (and no, it's not the naturalistic fallacy, nature is just groundwork) you're just interested in preaching and you're offering nothing new.
Oddly enough 'talk shit, get hit' is a pretty good guide.

No do run along to twitter and whine some more. You're awfully funny.

Be happy you served the purpose of providing some fodder for discussion.

I'm a very pro-Bernie Sanders sort of Democrat, but my brother seems to be leaning toward Libertarian suddenly, because of his newfound gun enthusiasm. Is all hope lost, or is there a way I can convince him that he's being silly?

Capital 'L' Libertarian implies a much more right-wing, anarcho-capitalist type of thing, so it might be. Guns seems to be a wedge issue in the USA, ask about some other positions to sound him out. In that broader context guns may not be as big a deal as you might think.

The notion of needing meat for evolutionary status IS a constructed story to distract and a lie. 'We need meat, so we have to eat' it is the story to distract from the 10 billion animals killed each year in awful conditions and so people don't have to ponder that abuse.

Evidence convinces me, not preaching.
I've not seen anything here to change my mind on the matter of our digestive tract, our dentation, our gut flora, enzymes, nutritional requirements etc.
So much as possible we buy from ethical sources - budget permitting (and living in the countryside makes this easier).
You're not bringing me anything new, just debunked evangelical codswallop.
Anyway, vat grown meat will be economically viable soon and then - hopefully - blissful silence from science-avoiding lentil munchers will descend and we can enjoy our bioprinted Sapient-Schnitzel in peace.
Even vegetarian groups disagree with you.

Stick to the (subjective) moral/ethical argument because you won't make ground elsewhere.

You talk about a 'false narrative' but trot out the consistently invalidated 'evolutionary reasons' regarding eating meat? Educate yourself.

Our evolutionary status isn't a constructed story to distract or lie to anyone.
The answer was a flippant joke, however...
We have a mid-length digestive tract consistent with an omnivorous diet.
We have a mixed set of teeth consistent with an omnivorous diet.
Our body is equipped to digest both meat and vegetable protein.
Our body requires substances, micronutrients, fats etc, which are best found and better digested from meat in a natural diet (B12 for example).
All evidence, along with the wild behaviours of our closest ape cousins, suggests that we are opportunistic omnivores. We do eat too much meat, but we do need to eat some. Technology has allowed for vegans to exist without too much harm, though I still consider it unethical to raise children in their formative years as vegans.
Mostly though, it's delicious.

What the fuck is Zak S's problem? I thought you were bros.

I don't honestly know. I've always had his and Mandy's back (and still will). Their objection seems to be based around the fact I've drifted into a moderate MHRA position and rather than ask me or talk to me about why that is, or what I actually think, they've succumbed to the same kind of kneejerk prejudice that they decry in others.
It's confusing and a bit hurtful since I've never been anything but supportive or friendly to them and given that I'm always open to discuss things and possibly change my mind if I'm wrong, but what can you do? It may also be 'strategic' I guess, since I'm (for some reason) persona-non-grata in certain circles and association with me could be seen as bad.
I don't get that either.
When did supporting free expression become such a terrible, pariah-worthy thing?

If you could spend the next year living anywhere in the world, where would you go?
