I’m so sorry I’m a bit late, but happy birthday! 😊 I hope the cake you made this year was fantastic once again! 🥰🏻 I also want to wish you a very happy new year! Best wishes to you 🥳🥰

Aww, no need for apology, I totally understand. I really appreciate the birthday/well wishes a lot! Thank you so much, Yentl! 🥰☺️
The cake was indeed delicious! You may have seen it already but I made a giant cinnamon roll as my cake this year. (I’ll repost just in case). 🤤 Was well worth the 6 or so hours it took me to make the day before. Also, had some good food before that! Made burgers for dinner and had shrimp tacos for lunch. 😋
Happy New Year and all the best wishes to you as well! I hope you’ve had a great start to 2024 so far, and that it only continues to be happy and healthy. 🥳🤗

What were some of your best moments of 2023?🎆

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Oooo… Here we go!
-Reunited with my dad after a year + trip to Chicago where I got to see the incredible 360° view from the 94th floor of the John Hancock building for the first time. 🤩
-New York (that entire trip was just SO good).
-Crossing Niagara Falls off my bucket list. 😛
-Moved to a new home that I truly love.
-Renewed my Cosmetology license successfully, and completed 14 hours of continuing education!
-Reuniting with my step-brother after not seeing each other in person for FOUR years. 🥰
-Started gaming (for real) and have been slowly learning how to do it properly since getting a gaming laptop. Still got a very long way to go, but I’m trying. 😁
-The very special trip to Chicago (again) that my mom, grandma, and I took for my grandma’s birthday this summer!
-The endless hours I spent outside, sitting by the river, watching/feeding ducks, walking, etc.
-Going to TWO different art festivals this year which were incredible!! 😱
-Seeing The 39 Steps with my step-brother. (FRONT ROW 🤩) True bonding experience!
-Experiencing creative fulfillment (several different moments throughout the year) from so many projects that I did for friends/family that were out of my comfort zone.
-And finally, my birthday yesterday, which was so special and made me feel so loved. Couldn’t have wished for a better end to the year than that! 🥺🥹

What are some local Christmas foods where you live? 🍪🎅

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Ooo good question! There’s a lot! I’m just gonna go a bit more broad with this so I don’t give away what state I live in.
-Casseroles… Endless casseroles. 😂 Most popular by far though is Green Bean casserole.
-Meatballs
-Lutefisk (lots of Scandinavian influence 😜)
-Sugar cookies
-Turkey
-Potato skins (usually loaded with bacon, cheese, and chives)
-Pumpkin pie
-Gingerbread
-Cheese balls (rolled in anything from herbs, to bacon, cranberries, etc…)
-Pigs in a Blanket
-Flavored Popcorn (usually cheese, and caramel are the most popular)
-Peppermint bark
-Lasagna
-Garlic bread or dinner rolls with butter
-Vegetable medley (corn, peas, carrots, lima beans, etc.)
And probably many, many other things I’m not thinking of. 😂

Describe a typical Christmas morning for you? 🎄 🎅 🎁 🌰 😇

redoasis2017’s Profile Photo★ ☮ ♫ тєηα¢ισυѕ тσммαу™ ▩ ♚ ☻
Usually, I get up around 9am, get dressed, Facetime my dad & family around 10am and we open gifts. Then, my mom, grandma and I will have brunch. Then we open cards, stocking gifts, and listen to Christmas music. And that is my typical Christmas morning, as we typically open gifts under the tree in the afternoon! So we definitely do things a little different, but it’s intentional because we like to prolong the day and just take our time. 😁

Are you baking/cooking anything this Christmas? ☺️🍗🥧🌽 I made my very first pumpkin pie, this year!! I'm like... Super proud of it, lol. 😝

Yes!!! My family and I made two pies for Christmas this year! French Silk and Lemon Meringue. I was proud of them, as they both turned out great! 😋
We also made meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy for Christmas dinner! And a brunch that included chocolate rolls (like cinnamon rolls but just with chocolate). SO good! 😁

What is your least favourite thing about Christmas? 🎄 🎅 🎁 🌰 😇

I guess the materialism/consumerism side of things, and the pressure (whether intentional or not) to buy people a lot of gifts/something expensive even if it isn’t affordable. I think Christmas is such a magical time, and I don’t like that people are sometimes made to feel guilty when they can’t afford to buy much, if anything. Or how, in order to not come off as “rude” or “inconsiderate,” people spend more than they feel comfortable with, and that makes me kinda sad. I don’t think anyone should be made to feel that way. 😕
It just isn’t what Christmas is truly about in my opinion. It’s so much more than just how many gifts you get/buy or how much money you spend/is spent on you. I say it a lot, but the people in your life should want your love and to be with YOU more than they want a bunch of possessions from a store, or for you to put yourself into financial distress for them. 😅🤷🏼‍♀️

What is the earliest you have ever woke up on Christmas Day? 🎄 🎅 🎁 🌰 😇

redoasis2017’s Profile Photo★ ☮ ♫ тєηα¢ισυѕ тσммαу™ ▩ ♚ ☻
Like 2:30am… 😂 I was quite young, and just was wide awake and full of energy. I ran into my dad’s room, woke him up, I had opened ALL my gifts by 3am and then we both just went back to sleep until 7:30. I enjoyed it while I opened them, but we both honestly found it was a little rough waking that early, and, depending on what the plans are the next day, it’s even more rough cause you’re just so sleepy. 😅😆
My dad, from then on, insisted that we don’t open stuff until 6am at the very earliest. We did every year until he moved away and now we open gifts on Facetime at like 10am. Needless to say, I love the traditions I’ve made with my family surrounding gifts and just Christmas in general much more now than when I was a kid. Like not rushing the day and festivities away, and just enjoying being together. 😁

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! 🎄🎁✨ How do you plan on spending the last week of 2023?

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Merry Christmas Tobbe!!! 🤗🎄🌟
First plan I have is going to be getting the gutters fixed at some point this week, as a huge tree branch fell on Christmas night and ripped off the gutter in several places. 🥴 The landlord also wants to get the tree itself looked at since it’s directly in front of my house and kinda scary to have huge branches falling off of it.
On Thursday, I’m planning on catching up with a good friend. 👀 Friday will be spent prepping for my birthday, which always includes making my own birthday cake from scratch, and I’m SO excited for that! I’m making a “cinnamon roll” cake this year and I absolutely cannot wait. 😋😁
Then, Saturday is my birthday, so I’m planning on having a nice lunch, going bowling (and maybe to the arcade as well), and then likely doing some other festivities that have yet to be determined. But I’m very excited! 🥳
Not my picture, but this is the cake I’m planning on making!

Do you watch any movies during the Christmas season? You have any favorites? 🎄📺

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
I do, yes! 😁
-The Polar Express
-Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town
-Frosty the Snowman
-The Santa Clause (all 3 movies, but 3 is my favorite of those)
-The Grinch
-Home Alone
Without a doubt, my favorite is The Polar Express. There is no other Christmas movie that is more nostalgic or gets me into the Christmas spirit faster than that! I’ve watched it basically every year since it came out. Plus, it blows my mind to think about how many characters Tom Hanks played in that movie. 🤯🤩

Is it rude if one person buys a less expensive gift than the other when you're both exchanging gifts?

Umm, no. Not at all. Money spent isn’t of importance whatsoever, nor is it what gift giving is really about. It’s about the thought and that someone gave you something out of their own desire, kindness, generosity, and their love for you. That’s the point. If anything, I think it’s rude to be ungrateful for something someone gave you simply because they didn’t spend a pretty penny on it. 😅
The moment you start placing value judgements on/comparing gifts based on how expensive it is or isn’t, is the moment gift giving loses it’s very special, and honestly wholesome meaning.
Plus, I know that there are many out there who wouldn’t mind or even think twice if no money was spent on them. 🤷🏼‍♀️ People around you should want your love, your care, and that quality time spent with you above anything else… As THAT is the most beautiful, priceless and completely irreplaceable gift there is. No material possessions can beat it, no matter how expensive.

If you went Christmas shopping/celebrate Christmas... What gift are you excited to give someone? 🎉😋🎄🎁🤪 If you don't celebrate Christmas... What do you celebrate in your culture/country, for this time of year? Any fun traditions?

As a family gift for my dad, my step-mom and step-siblings, I bought them this enlarged, and engraved gingerbread village snow globe with a train going around the front! I am honestly so excited to see their reaction to it, because Christmas villages of any kind are right up their alley. And as you’ll see, the village also wraps around the outside of the snow globe as well, which I really like. ☺️
Here’s a photo of it from the
website I bought it off of! Obviously, this one isn’t engraved, but this way you can imagine what it’d look like. 😁

How often do you take naps? Do you find it difficult to sleep in the middle of the day? 😴⛅

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
I take naps nearly everyday…And they aren’t short power naps or anything either. I tend to sleep for like 3 hours at least. 😅😂
To be honest, sometimes I find it harder to sleep at night than I do during the day. But, especially now with my health being rocky, I’m constantly SO tired, so the amount I’ve been sleeping during the day has increased a lot. 😴 I don’t love that I do it so often, but if it helps me out and gives me an energy boost to function through the day, I can’t complain too much!

If someone says, "You smell good" (as a compliment)... Yay or nay? 😝🤪👃🏼✨👌

I’d say yay, for the most part! I mean, it’s a nice compliment, in my opinion. Like, as long as someone isn’t getting all up in my personal space and sniffing me or something, it’s all good. 😂😌

What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?

I feel like a broken record sometimes when I talk about my health, but for real, dealing with my chronic illness is the biggest challenge I’m facing at the moment. 🥴
It’s been flaring for coming up on two months with little sign it’s gonna clear up soon. And especially around the holidays, being sick is really rough cause I can’t be as energetic as I’d like and also, how I’m gonna feel moment to moment is completely unpredictable. 🥲
