What should someone do if they think someone that they know wants to commit suicide?
well for starters the whole glamorizing of suicide in the media is off -- like kissing someone's scars and running a bubble bath isn't going to get them out of an episode, it's not that simple.
people want to kill themselves for a spectrum of reasons, sometims it's from an event (big or even small, especially with people who have disorders like bpd) and sometimes it's for no reason at all. sometimes they're having a psychotic / delusional episode. it all depends.
you need to let them know they are valid, they are real and loved and wanted. you have to let them know about all the things they bring into the world, even if it's small insignificant things like cooking ramen perfectly or petting dogs until they're absolutely in bliss. you need to make sure they are safe and important and are away from triggering things.
and you need to give them a reason to live. it can be dumb, it can be small, but it works. they shouldn't die until their niece says "i love you". they shouldn't die until they meet their favourite singer. they shouldn't die until their birthday, because that cake is going to be the best. no matter how dumb or small, it's important that they have a goal.
