Becoming vegan fixed my depression, because it was a symptom of a milk allergy. So it's plausible depending on what you classify as depression (just the illness if its not due to anything else or)

if you were depressed as a symptom of an allergen to milk -- that was a side effect of your allergy to dairy (i'm assuming lactose) that when triggered, results in depression. that wasn't a serious mental illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.

major depressive disorder isn't something that isn't so easily switched on and off by taking medication or cutting dairy out of your diet-- your brain is literally failing you, it is not producing the proper amount of chemicals and reacting properly (chemical reactions to stimuli). most people often have to take a lot of medications, or a combination of medications, before the proper medicine is found to stabilize that imbalance. a lot of people just plateau after a certain point-- ie they get less sad, but not completely satisfied/happy, therefore they aren't considered "recovered" yet. i've been at the point for two/three years now, despite my medication being at the highest possible dosage.

this question implies that veganism can cure a serious mental disorder.
this question implies that correcting a food allergy is now synonymous with "fixing" a serious mental disorder.

that fact that you even imply that is absolutely vile. veganism can't cure mental disorders. can it cure food allergies? sure. but so do antihistamines, so does regulating blood pressure, so does immunotherapy and desensitization.

veganism is not some pure, organic remedy that is heaven sent, it's a dietary and lifestyle choice that quite frankly, i don't care for, because people like you have ruined it for me by shoving your lifestyle onto me because "it's healthy!" or "you'll cure your mental illness!" or "think of the animals!1!". if it improved your health, that's great and that's fine and i'm happy you're satisfied with the results, but the fact of the matter is not everybody can be vegan, not everyone is physically or mentally capable of handling that, and even /implying/ that someone should try to go vegan to "cure" themselves is disgusting and ableist.
