There's definitely something going on with "southern = country" that needs a good study. You see confederate flags all over the country in rural areas now even in the north. Wtf.
obviously racism is everywhere in the usa (and worldwide, tbh) -- that's just a given lol
the reason the south is associated with racism and the confederate flag is because... we are literally the confederate states. when the south receded from the us, they were the confederate states and they used the confederate flag. mind you, the south receded because they though black people should remain in slavery, while the north was going "nah fam they're humans too"
like yeah the whole nation is racist -- but imo it's very problematic to erase the deep deep racism that runs in the southern us. it's extremely normalized, it's taught in schools in a non negative light, and i'd like to remind y'all of the kkk (a southern thing) and of ferguson (mike brown), waller county (sandra bland), etc. also the south and the rural northeastern parts of america are the most racists parts of the usa.
please don't try to make the racism in the south seem the same as racism in the north, it's so so bad here like last year a black mlm was lynched while he was running for mayor's office and the kkk is active + ignored and sheriffs all over texas and most of the south are saying #bluelivesmatter and #whitelivesmatter and #alllivesmatter it's absolutely horrible hhhh
