“In a sense,” I murmured, holding up a chocolate cookie, “I’m like the crumbs of this cookie. Desperately wanting to go back to the way I was, but stuck here on the countertop without a way to get back up.”
Demi Graylan couldn’t take the bullying anymore—so she left. Left public school and transferred into an online program. She was finally able to get away from the rude comments, the sneers, the jabs. She was finally able to walk away from the rumors spread about her that tainted her and her reputation.
Or so she thought anyway.
The bullying still continues after she leaves and there seems no way to stop it. Demi pretends that she’s okay, that she can handle it now that she doesn’t have to be around the taunts for seven hours during the school day. But in reality she’s not okay. The bullying hurts more than anything else in the world.
Now add Declan.
Declan Kadeth, the new boy in town. Who knew that he’d have the same knack at cooking she has and that he’d apply for a job at Sugar Land Pastries, the place she works? Demi sure didn’t. And she also didn’t know that Declan would be the source of finally finding happiness again, of finally getting rid of the bullies once for all.
The only problem? Demi won’t let anyone help her. She’s too afraid to face her fears, too afraid to let Declan in. She’s too afraid to tell him what really happened that day, over a year ago.
