How do you write without making mistakes- constantly wanting to edit, to change your work? I love to write, I'm not bad, but I can't actually move on with a chapter because I spend too much time hating my work or being stuck because I can't start it off right. Any advice you could give me?
I feel this so much.
I don't write without making mistakes -- far from it! You are definitely not the only one who constantly wants to edit, change your work, and gets caught up in hating the current product. A lot of us do, including myself (my friends can vouch).
What I do when I keep second guessing something is just force myself to move on. I tell myself, "This is just the first draft. I can deal with it later. For now, let's just finish the chapter." I know it's probably easier said than done, but if you just physically force yourself to just keep going you'll get a much needed break from the passage you're having an issue with, and when you come back to it, there's a chance that it might not be as awful as you initially thought.
Almost every time I write a chapter of my story Empathy, there's almost always one or two parts that irritate the crap out of me or don't sound right. And I spend ages trying to fix it, to make it sound like it's supposed to. But eventually I just remind myself that I can fix it later. For now, having a crappy passage is better than having nothing at all.
This was probably of no help to you, but this is pretty much all that I do. I'm sorry you're struggling, and just know that you are not alone <3
