Any advice to writers starting off on Wattpad?

1. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. It's a pretty basic concept, but some people just can't seem to grasp it. People work hard on their stories, and you have NO RIGHT to steal their work and take the credit for yourself. IT'S NOT OKAY. You can't take someone's work without their permission. It's wrong, it's illegal, it's gross, and it's just. It's just ugh.

2. Do not expect your story to get 3475463241241 reads right away, or even really after that. It usually takes a lot of time and hard work to start accumulating a fan base. if you expect to gain 1 million+ reads in a week, you're going to be disappointed.

3. Write what you love! If you don't enjoy what you're writing, how can you expect others to?

4. A nice cover/summary is always good to have.

5. Check people's bios before advertising your work in the PM's. While some users welcome it, others don't. And messaging them when they have it posted on their bio that they don't take requests is going to do nothing but irk them.

6. Do not advertise in people's stories! It's so rude, and no one appreciates it.

7. While it's expecting to have some typos (I myself only scan my story briefly before posting it), try to have good grammar and punctuation.

8. Try not to be discouraged by rude comments/criticisms. Not everyone is going to like your story. With criticism, try to pick it apart and see what you can use to help you.

9. Everyone hits road blocks while riding. Try not to give up. Do the best you can to work through the problem you're facing! Look up advice for your problem (youtube videos are my best friends for this). It's okay to recycle a plot that just isn't working, but try not to give up right away. Writing isn't easy. It takes hard work and perseverance.

10. Socialize and make friends! There are some really amazing people on this site.

11. Be nice to people. It will make your life so much easier.

I read their message, feel a pit begin to grow in my stomach, wonder why they felt the need to speak so rudely when there were so many better ways to word what they wanted to say, vent to my friends, and then put it behind me.
