Do you know anyone who laughs at what they say for seemingly no reason, even if they weren't telling a funny story or a joke? I have a friend like this - “Last night, I went to the grocery store and they had a two-for-one sale on cantaloups! BAHAHAHAHA!!!!” It's just as if they find that hilarious

I avoid those people. I do have a friend who laughs at his stuff before he even says it.

Should the Democrats let the Republicans shut down the government? I think they should, and let them receive all the blame for it, just like happened back in 1995. As an aside, Gingrich, to this day, still claims that one a victory....for him.

JessePinkmanGS’s Profile PhotoGrackles Know Your Real Name
I'd say a shutdown for a couple days would be the best medicine for all those idiots. Then they can actually work through something together...well...nevermind. They won't ever do that!

Would you rather have a key that works on any door (but exclusively doors), or be able to shape shift from your neck up (you'd always have great hate, no blemishes, and make your face look like another person's)?

I'll change my face so I can be really, really, really, really good looking.

You're in a hurry to get to work, and some panicked guy with a black suitcase runs right into you. When you get up, he quickly tells you there's $250k in the suitcase and to hold onto it until he comes back. He runs off before you can object. There is $250k in it. What do you do?

Call the police. No sane person with legal money just hands that much to a stranger. I'd set the case down gently and move away from it instructing others to do the same.

Are the MRA's getting crazier? One told me to kill myself without any provocation, I just asked peoples thoughts on "men hitting women"... They wonder why no one likes them.

That is not an MRA, that is a dirtbag. I hope you reported that threat to Yahoo. Threatening death to someone is not free speech.

So, a man punches a woman cashier in the face yesterday in Colorado over 41 cents and NOT ONE of the men in line helped her! Not one! So please remind me again why men are so wonderful? >:( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI5fgXfoV90 What would you have done?

ThomasGWS’s Profile PhotoThomas
That is an unfortunate incident. But did you see how big that dude was? Most of those behind him in line were much smaller. Also, they might not have really paid attention to what actually happened.
He punched her once and started walking away. If I were there, I would not have jumped on him since he had already ceased his action. Jumping him would have only started another fight. We can all look at that and think "what if," but one has to put oneself in the situation. The guy was volatile and trying to stop him would have caused another issue. And what if he had a knife/gun? Do I want to get stabbed/shot when the guy was already walking away? Nope. If he had continued to hit her, I would have tried to assist. But I'd also do that if it were a male clerk as well.

It's fair to assume someone you meet has kids if ___________. Fill in the blank. Exclude terribly obvious ones like "they tell you". I've been asked if I have kids 5 times this month by strangers (customers at work), and it's starting to breed an insecurity...

Ugh... you know when you KNOW you're going to get sick the next day...? Your nose is *almost* sniffly, but you can definitely feel the back of your throat start to sore? Ugh >.<

sandrawhat’s Profile PhotoWhat
I hope you are getting rest. Sometimes that feeling of sickness coming is as bad as the sickness since one starts to contemplate all the of the suffering and lost time they will have. Once sick, it just comes down to fighting the good fight.

A kid is born today. How important is education to that individual? Yes, rudimentary skills are important to live in society, but is there a point in fostering a value for education if it's not in a valuable field?

sandrawhat’s Profile PhotoWhat
Education is very important and not just rudimentary skills. For any society to grow and become better, children need education so they can think for themselves and want to move beyond merely existing.

How do you feel about paying kids for good grades? Does it teach kids to value education in terms of what they receive from it? Is that wrong? Does it send the message that doing well is optional? Or is it a motivating force kids who lack an interest in education? Would you do it with your kids?

sandrawhat’s Profile PhotoWhat
Well, out in the work world people are paid for their performance. But school really shouldn't be like this. It is a much different environment. There should be rewards and praise for good grades, but direct money isn't the best option here. I've known parents who would tell a kid who wanted a new game system that they had to receive good grades for the semester to receive one. That is a reward without having to use direct pay.

Why are people so concerned with getting respect? Why not focus on getting (and holding on to) spect in the first place?

Only punks and drama queens worry so much about this. Either someone is going to respect me or not due to how I live my life.

Why was this live performance by Madonna in 1984 considered one of the most iconic for women's rights? Take note that this song was written by two men(Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly)and was intended for a man to sing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGeEFl4oRG8 How did it open doors for other women?

I was too young to contemplate the deep meaning of that video. Looking back, I figured she was just trying to be controversial to promote herself. It worked.
I think her Papa Don't Preach was a bigger statement about women.

High school reunion: Strange experience, seeing your teen friends as spouses and/or parents. The same dude who crushed beer cans on his forehead is now a doctor. The hot cheerleader is not hot anymore. The geeks seemed to inherit the earth. Would you go to a class reunion, and for what reasons?

I already have done such a thing. It was interesting to see how people turned out. I even was able to re-connect with some long lost friends.

Do you think this fireman's dating rating just skyrocketed because of this video, no matter what he looks like in real life? I say yes, my heart melted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjB_oVeq8Lo

Does anyone else find prescription drug commercials to be ironic, if not scary? They generally show people all happy and playing sports or other physical activity or having fun picnics with family. But at the same time, the announcer is telling you about the horrific side effects that could occur?

ThomasGWS’s Profile PhotoThomas
I've found the side effect listings to actually be the entertaining part of the commercial...

In your opinion, what do you consider to be a "gold digger"? Do you think true gold diggers chase after middle-class and poor men? And do you think Kanye West says it best concerning gold diggers? Is this song sexist and patriarchal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vwNcNOTVzY Thanks! xD

ThomasGWS’s Profile PhotoThomas
People like to think "gold digger" only applies to a young, pretty woman going after a very rich man. The thing is, there just aren't that many very rich men to be had. Let's say it is an income of $250k/yr. That is a small percentage of the male population. There are plenty of women who would love to the financial benefit of such a man. These men know they have their pick of women. They also can sniff out the gold diggers quite easily. And if he is willing to have one of them short term, he is going to pick the youngest and hottest one possible. And what about the ones who are maybe just mildly attractive, over 40, or a bit chubby? There are going to be "gold diggers" among them as well. They have to set their sights on men who make less because they don't have the assets that appeal to the rich guy. If she only makes $30k as a secretary, then a guy at $75k will seem very appealing. He doesn't have a Mercedes or boat, but he still has a nice place and a good car. He can take her to a nice steak dinner at Ruth's Chris but maybe not Chef Pierre's exclusive Bistro.
So, Thomas, there are gold diggers who go after all types. In fact, any woman who wants to date a man merely for the fiscal advantage it provides her is a gold digger. Instead of finding gold bars, she will have to settle for a few gold coins.

Do you think this 2nd wave feminist anthem made more people aware of domestic violence/verbal abuse after it hit the top 10? Do you think evil patriarchists were responsible for the downfall of "Til Tuesday" because of this song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uejh-bHa4To Thanks! xD

ThomasGWS’s Profile PhotoThomas
Honestly, I haven't given much thought to that song. The only reason Til Tuesday didn't grow is they simply didn't have the long term talent to progress their music. Many of the 80's bands didn't make it to the 90's

What is an issue (in your home country) in which the conservative position has achieved long term success over its liberal counterpart? In 1959, 60% of Americans thought handguns should be illegal, but due to a well-funded, well-organized paranoid gun culture, that number was 26% as of October, 201

JessePinkmanGS’s Profile PhotoGrackles Know Your Real Name
The decline of labor unions is a long term success for the conservative moment. At one point, they were useful but now there are plenty of labor laws protecting the US worker. Unions only inhibit job growth. Just look at the struggling domestic auto makers. Foreign companies like Toyota can build their vehicles with US labor and make a profit.
http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2013/01/labor-unions-declining-membership-shows-labor-laws-need-modernizing
I would like to comment about your example of the "paranoid gun culture." Liberals love their liberties and individual freedoms as do I. Where are these freedoms found? The first 10 amendments to our Constitution aka the Bill of Rights. We want free speech, speedy trials, protection from search/siezure and others. Yet when it comes to one specific amendment, the 2nd, suddenly only the paranoid "conservative" gun culture wants to protect that one? So, liberals only care about the other 9 amendments but not that other one? I'll just compare handguns to the 1st amendment. Let's just say that freedom of religion should only apply to those mono-theistic beliefs. And free speech should not apply to the KKK. After all, if we want to restrict the 2nd amendment to only single shot long guns, why not restrict the other amendments? Why do liberals want to cherry pick the Bill of Rights to exclude one particular amendment? I think the "gun culture" is really be a liberal position that most liberals have apparently forgotten. Liberals should denounce any gov't attempts to restrict ANY of our freedoms in the Bill of Rights.

Do you support doctor assisted suicide? If so, to what extent? What do you think about cases where an ailing person can no longer effectively communicate, or even hold, desires for their future?

sandrawhat’s Profile PhotoWhat
I support an individual with a terminal condition choosing to end their life on their own terms before they end up with extreme pain or other awful end of life conditions. How else will they do it other than eating a bullet or slashing wrists? A lethal Rx is really the most humane way. Oregon already allows this.
If the person can no longer communicate effectively about their condition, it is too late for him/her to make such a decision.
