What do you think of merit pay in education (i.e. teachers and/or schools getting funded based on their demonstrated ability to educate their students to a certain standard)? What do you think of merit pay in other fields and industries?
I think it is a good concept provided it is done correctly. As another pointed out, it leaves open the door for the staff to cheat by artificially increasing test scores. The way it is now, a mediocre teacher can just coast through and still receive pay raises being part of the teacher's union. Don't we want the best possible teachers to instruct our children?
Merit pay in industry is there to reward performance. Higher performance leads to more/better work output. This leads to more revenue and profit for the company. Merit pay is just a fact of life for those of us in for-profit industry.

What is your favorite mobile app?
It changes with seasons and work. When I'm travelling, I like the airline apps for seating, re-booking, and checking in. During the fall, I like yahoo sportstacular for football scores.

Yes I have. I was traveling a lot for work and wasn't around enough to consistently water so the overall yield was low.

What do you think about doctor-assisted suicide? Do people have a right to end their own lives, or is suicide always a symptom of a mental disorder?
I think in certain terminal cases where the last pieces of life are going to be agonizing and painful not only for the ill person but those around him/her, an assisted suicide is appropriate. Even looking at it from medical costs makes sense.
