What's the last book you read?

I just finished a collection of documents of the Catholic Church from the 60s to 80s, "Vatican II: More Postconciliar Documents," edited by Austin Flannery. Not for everyone, but I found them very interesting and insightful. They are, you might say, the application of the gospel to modern day events.

Should you have done this, or even if it a temptation to you I suggest you think about the following.

A sexual act like this or even allowing oneself to think of this and to take pleasure in it would be a serious sin. A sin of this kind separates one from the love of God. Should you die in this state that would mean hell for all eternity.

There is hope though.

---

You can ask God for forgiveness directly in prayer. But God has extended a further hand to help you. To have serious sin like this forgiven in prayer requires that one do this from the pure love of God and not due to any thought of oneself - like the shame or the punishment for example. This requires quite a great love for God and would really be a great grace for anyone considering this sin to receive.

---

So the help which God has provided is a Roman Catholic priest. This man has been given power from God to forgive sin. Quite unbelievable you might well say but, quite simply, Jesus on earth had the power to do this, when he left us to go to heaven he did not leave us without this great help but ordained men to continue this incredible ministry.

---

You are not alone in your struggle against sin. Even an impure thought of a woman in which pleasure is taken is also serious sin and would receive similar punishment. This of course means that other sexual acts such as pornography, masturbation, fornication, adultery and homosexual acts are also all serious sins.

---

I shall pray for you and ask that you do the same for me.

I believe in one God who created all other beings. The angels which God created are pure spiritual beings as he is. Some of the angels have chosen to oppose God and these might try to deceive us into thinking that they are gods. I hope this is helpful.

I think I will have to abandon my monastic mission. It seems that it might not be God's will for me. I was very disappointed when I was denied a visa to the UK to further pursue a vocation. Thanks so much for asking though.

Yikes, I am sorry that I have been so irregular. I connect to the internet at a library to which I walk. Machines at the library and time are limited and things can keep me from the walk. With these difficulties and the further uncertainties of life - yes I am back for good. Thanks so much for asking. :-)

Quite recently I was swimming in the sea, out alone, and quite deep and a flock of 9 seagulls came riding the wind, skimming over the waves as they do. They passed silently quite close overhead. It was really beautiful.

Incest is sin. There are some things which God permitted in the Old Testament which are no longer permitted now that Christ has come.

Christ has given us a living voice so that we may know how to please him. This voice is the Catholic Church and she tells us that incest is sinful.

I don't know. I am sure it was someone in the house switching off and on a light. I never did find out why they were doing that. It was as if they were signalling someone.
