why does it feel better training for a marathon over many hours vs spending one hour winning it and getting what you want?
I am not so sure that it should feel better but perhaps the emptiness one might feel at achieving a large goal shows that this goal has been seen as an end and not a means to the ultimate goal of going to heaven.
What turns you on intellectually?
I have become even more lazy intellectually recently! But discussions about God/truth are very stimulating.

do you suggest people read (Living Translation / New Living Translation) Bibles for people to get the ideas of the Bible? it uses simpler and modern language?
It sounds like you are looking for a Bible to read for personal spiritual growth. For this purpose I would suggest that one read the "New American Bible" as it is a recent translation approved by the Catholic Church who is the custodian of the Word of God. (And of course it is the complete Bible unlike most Protestant Bibles which exclude books of the Old Testament!)
If you were reading Scripture to see if the Catholic Church is indeed God's Church then I would suggest reading the Douay-Rheims Bible as from what I understand it is closest to the Latin "Vulgate" in translation and from what I understand that is the Bible which is still to be used in the defence of dogma. Along with the Douay-Rheims I would also read all the Catholic versions and where there are differences in translations to Protestant Bibles to try go back to the Greek and Hebrew.
This is what I would advise from my limited experience but if you are seeking a guide to Scripture then I suggest you listen to and read as much you can of Scott Hahn.
Even for a Catholic "Rome Sweet Home" about his conversion is excellent as it shows one how important Scripture is in our life at it is a key source to the truth, which is God. And for a general guide to reading Scripture his "Our Father's Plan", done with Jeff Cavins, looks good even if a bit intense.
