Do you wear a chastity belt to help keep your desires under control?

Lol, no. I have not hear of men wearing a chastity belt. I don't know what it would be like. :-) Three Hail Mary's in the morning and evening for purity is said to be a sure remedy! :-)

what do your family think of you wanting to go into a monastery?

I think they are a little anxious. They are not Catholic which makes it difficult and things did not work out in the past. They have some concerns.

what is your typical daily diet?

I am eating quite haphazardly at the moment. Tins mainly. Beans, eggs, bread, fruit - apples and bananas, canned meat some beetroot. Hope my teeth don't start falling out!

I'm confused-are you still in jail?

Lol, no thanks be to God. No computers in jail were I was and certainly no phones! :-)

When it comes to bisexuality, do you think its just a case of someone falling in love with a person/personality - no matter what their gender is?

Yikes, I am a bit at a loss in this field. I thought bisexuality was when one naturally had genitals which displayed characteristics of both sexes. Please feel free to correct me.
I don't think attraction for someone of the same sex is necessary homosexual. I think we should have very close friends of the same sex. It is said of the Apostle John that he was the disciple whom Jesus loved and we find him at the last supper resting his head on the breast of Our Lord. I don't think there was anything unmanly about St. John.
I think people quite often confuse natural affection for something else and then it makes one obliged to feel oneself homosexual.
Just some thoughts.

I also, feel God in your words. spirituality radiates from you. God bless

Yikes, well it must be God's grace. I am certainly weak but perhaps that is God might be happy to use me. All good must be his. :-) Thanks so much though! :-)

I do feel God's presence in your words

That is very kind of you. Let's hope so for both of us. If your feeling is right, then the words will be helpful which is really great. And it will be even better for me because I won't be going around talking nonsense. :-)

Thank you for your kind words. You're an incredible person

You are most kind. I have many, many flaws. I think you must be an incredible person for seeing in me an incredible person. :-) I suppose if we see God in each other then we can only see incredible. :-) The words were a pleasure. :-) (I am not sure what words those are. :-) )

I'm going to a jesuit retreat house for my retreat

Wow, that sounds really great. I do hope that it is a good retreat. Clergy can have such strange ideas nowadays - perhaps it was always like this. I shall pray for you to have a really great retreat.
I remember very fondly a 3 or 4 day Ignatian retreat which I made. We meditated on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. It really was amazing. :-) I so enjoyed the meditations that a year later I was still using them. :-)
God bless you! :-)

why did the monasteries turn you down ?

Out of charity to all parties, I will answer that question. :-)

how do you keep your thoughts pure?

Purity is a gift of God, so prayer is key. Remove oneself from situations that are the cause of impure thoughts. Think of things which are excellent, good, pure, admirable, praiseworthy. Read Scripture and draw close to Jesus. Surround yourself with people who also want to be pure. Confess your sins as soon as you fall. You might want to examine your conscience daily and recall how many times you have sinned against purity. You can keep track of this so that you can see what progress you are making. It also helps one to see what causes one's struggles or if there is cyclical nature to one's sin.
Very important is as soon as you fall, pray to God for forgiveness, don't let anything keep you from throwing yourself on God's mercy. You must never become despondent about how often you fall nor ever doubt the love of God. Remember as long as you fight you shall succeed.
Remember, God never lets you be tempted beyond what you can bear. You must make a distinction between temptation, which is not sinful and giving into temptation, which is sinful. No matter how strong the thoughts might be if you continue to resist them, however weakly, you have not sinned. Resisting temptation is a great way to draw close to God.
Great, very great means to purity are the means which Christ has given us in his Church, these are Confession and the Eucharist. The Eucharist is only open to Catholics. Everyone might go to Confession for help but if not a Catholic one cannot receive absolution but it is still a great practice. The priest is sworn to secrecy and has great knowledge of sin and the devil's whiles and so can help one.
Again, try to find things which interest you and replace these impure thoughts. Guard your eyes do not look at things which are tempting.
I hope this of some help. Sorry for not structuring the reply better but I just wanted to answer and not delay.
May God bless you. I shall pray for you, please pray for me.

are you celibate?

Yes. I am not quite sure what that word means in my context. I am not married. I am not in a relationship.

What is the weirdest thing you've heard somebody say?

I once met a man who said he was King George and that everything belonged to him. I think that might be the strangest.

Thank you. I want to go on a retreat. I'm losing faith I'm afraid.

Please don't lose faith. A retreat sounds like a really good idea. Please make sure you go with good priests or good retreat leaders. Do pray and don't give up no matter how you feel. A storm is coming up here. I must go offline. May God bless you! I shall pray for you. Remember faith is a gift from God ask him for it. Lots of love.

I was in jail for 3 days for a dwi. I know it doesn't compare. It was 2 years ago. I think about it every day

Wow, that is interesting. I can't say if it compares. Jail is a very unique experience and perhaps the shortness of your stay might have made it much sharper. With time I got to learn more of jail life and despite its dangers and hardships it becomes a way of life. I pray that God may give you rest in these thoughts. I pray that you take a lot of good from it.
Take care with the DUI's. I met a man there who got 20 years for killing someone while under the influence. It was extremely, extremely difficult for him. It can really crush one's spirit.
God bless you!

how do you spend your days? :)

I kept a very strict schedule. There are no clocks and the officers only reluctantly tell one the time. From the one jail one did not see sun at all in the other jail one did in some cell blocks see the sun. In any case I worked out how to keep track of time by the officers walks. At regular intervals and officer would walk through the cell block to check that everything is in order.
How the days were spent also varied where I was.
I was in three types of jail accommodation.
I was first housed alone in a cell in a unit where people were put who were kept isolated from the jail population. That was for two months or so. Here I was getting used to being in jail initially.
Sorry it is a bit much for me to write of. I think perhaps I am going into too much detail.
Very basically, I would do an enactment of the Mass, pray 5 Psalms in the morning along the lines of lauds and similarly for vespers in the evening. I read the Bible, did exercises, did puzzles, did some memorization work, drew, tried to learn a bit of Spanish, spent some time interacting with my cell mate say playing cards, wrote grievances and other jail admin, kept a diary. I broke the day down into a very strict schedule.
Sorry for the haphazard nature of this answer.
Thanks so much for your questions.
May God bless you.

what was it like in jail?

Wow! It was an experience. One of the most valuable things that I learnt there is not to judge others. As soon as one is in jail stripes many view one no longer as a person. There are people there who are totally forgotten and for whom nobody cares. I was in jail in the Maricopa County where Phoenix, Arizona is. I was in two different jails. Lower Buckeye Jail and Fourth Avenue Jail. The then Sheriff styled himself as the toughest sheriff in America and he made things difficult for people in jail. Quite unfair really, as the vast majority of people there are standing trial and have not yet been found guilty. The vast, vast, vast majority of cases in Maricopa are settled by plea bargains. I met a man there who admitted guilt for a murder which he did not commit and got 20 years. He spent 2 years in jail fighting his case but conditions were so bad that he just gave up. He did say that he had committed other murders. One of the beautiful thoughts that I took from jail is that I have a very good friend who was death row, Jesus. I did meet some other men who were facing the death penalty. It is a world of its own. It helps one to get a perspective on sin and its consequences.

Do you have a job?

No. I have not worked for a number of years now. I have been back from jail for about 2,5 years and have not worked in this time. I have tried to help people in a small way. Add the 1,5 years in jail and you have 4 years. Before leaving for my trip to the States where I was arrested I worked in my parents' garden for perhaps a year or more. Apart from this I worked as a nanny for 2 year and before that as an architect. I also worked at a school in Germany and did a bit of study for the priesthood there.

Is it sinful to masterbate? x

Yes. It is a serious offence against God. What does this mean? Once we are baptized and become children of God he gives us divine life which resides in our soul. If we sin seriously against God we drive this divine life from our souls. If we die in this state we will spend eternity in hell. Should we sin in this way though, we should immediately ask God for forgiveness and try to do this out of pure love for God. What does this pure love for God mean? It means that we are sorry for having offended God and not because of the consequences which we will suffer due to our sin. God in his kindness has given us a means of having our sins forgiven even if we cannot make such a pure act of love towards God. He has left men on earth to continue his mission of bringing us to the Father. These are priests. If we go to Confession, an imperfect act of love is sufficient for our sins to be forgiven.
It might seem quite difficult not to masturbate but God will give one the strength to overcome. If one should fall then he has given us the remedy so that we can get up and continue fighting.
As long as you are fighting you are sure to succeed.
God bless you! x
