My Bible gives background for each book and for 1 Maccabees it says, "There is no doctrine of individual immortality...nor does the book express any messianic expectation, though messianic images are applied historically to the 'days of Simon' (14:4-17)." So I guess that answers our question.
Thanks Alyssa. The question was did the Jews throw out the deuterocanonical because they spoke too clearly of a Messiah? Certainly does not seem to be the case with 1 Maccabees.

Do you prefer to see a movie at the cinema or at home on DVD?
I don't really have a set preference. It is nice to be able to stop a movie and rewind and think about it. It makes one more aware that one is viewing a product and takes away some of the illusion. In a movie theater one is more immersed in the movie and so ones emotions and sensibilities are sort of trapped, one has less freedom.

Perhaps to 20 different people. Often a short conversation, but longer conversations too. I don't know 50? Some days less, some more.
