Aha awesome! I’m going to be doing something to celebrate Samhain and then watch a scary film to celebrate the Halloween spooky vibes I think 🎃 I’m ok, I am still tired from yesterday, it was a long day but other than that I’m all good, off to horses in an hour or so :) how are you?

omg scary nats, ireland flooded bad earlier in the week too my cousins escaped in the uk and ireland thankfully are you safe and everything nats xo

Just came out of nowhere! The rain was nice to fall asleep to but it was scary to see how bad it got! I am all good, parts of my town did flood quite bad but around me not too much thankfully. Horses are all good too, I saw a few on a very flooded field on my way there and they were up to their bellies in it 🥺

Tell a little about your farm-life ? (do you own . . . size . . etc.) [I've been in agriculture all my life ~ as a grower + shortish spell in a friend's forestry management + some live stock experience, long ago!]

igotamatch’s Profile Photoigotamatch
I grew up on a farm my entire life, with the homestead being 40 acres plus 200 acres of field land. When I lived in Texas, I had 20 acres on top of 40 with a mixture of beef cattle and goats, sheep, and horses. Once I moved to California, my cousin allowed me to take over his farm as he's a top model/business man that wants nothing to do with that lifestyle. There's over 400 acres that I share with my uncle, and we raise a mixture of beef, dairy, goats, sheep, horses, pigs, ducks, and chickens We have a huge garden for canning. We do beans, corn, wheat, oats, and hay. We'll support some local businesses with daily fruits, veggies, and bread. Trying to give back to the community as California is so expensive.

Do you think it’s easier to be in a relationship or easier to be alone?

Elixir77’s Profile PhotoElixir77
It’s a horses for courses thing, it’s more fun in a relationship and it nice to share ideas and plans with someone but that does limit impromptu spur of the moment changes sometimes, so..sometimes it’s easier in a relationship sometimes it’s easier being single.
When I was in a relationship I decided that my partner could make the final call on all the small unimportant decisions, like what car we had, where we lived, if we renovated etc, and I would make the final call on all the serious, important decisions, like which planet to move to if earth was threatened for example 😉

You are a farmer, right? What type of farm do you have? Do your kids help you out? What is it that you all do?

Correct — I'm a mixed farmer, which means I do crops and livestock. My daughter helps out a lot as she's responsible for the baby animals, and my son will help out with the chickens and ducks. The cattle and crops I do with my uncle and the horses, sheep, and goats are mine along with the chickens and ducks.

What type of life would you like to have if you could imagine it?

To live in the country somewhere a bit hilly and has a view of a lake so I'm able to watch the sunrise and sunset dance on the water. I'd have a garden with the chickens and ducks roaming around and my horses, cattle, and goats roaming freely in a pasture scattered on the hill. My kids run around in the yard, playing with the dogs, and my wife watches them from the porch wrapped up in a blanket and holding her freshly poured coffee close to her. UGH! THAT WOULD BE EVERYTHING!!!! 😍
But also I desperately want to travel the world with my future wife. I want to be one with nature, God, and our little family. I'm so in awe of God's creation that it warms my heart. ♥️

Have you ever rode an animal before? If so, what animal was it and what was the experience like? 🐎 🐪 🐘 👍 😇

I have rode an animal before! I’ve rode horses a couple of times. I simply love it so much, especially when we go to the beach. It always hypes up the horses so much!

What stranger do you still remember? Why?

I was in Costa a couple months back, there was this elderly woman looking for a seat but there were no tables left so we asked her if she wanted to sit with us. She was super sweet. Her name was Sylvia and she was talking about what she did for work and telling me about her grandchildren’s horses in Australia once I mentioned what I do. Sat with her for around an hour. I hope to bump into her again and see how she’s doing!

What do you like to do in the city and what do you like to do in the country?

I absolutely hate the city. The only nice thing about living in a "city" is the food options. Living close to shopping areas are dangerous for me because I have expensive taste whether that be decor or clothing.... 😬
I find the beaches very relaxing, too.
I grew up on a farm, so I love the freedom. I love the responsibility of caring for animals and keeping busy with chores or whatever needs to be done. I love being able to hop on my horses whenever I felt like it and ride for hours. I loved mudding and spending hours outside climbing trees. I miss swinging off the hay trolley and jumping into a pile of hay.

How do you take care of the horses Natalie 😊

In what sense? feeding them, watering them, mucking out, hoof care/farrier visits, routine vet appointments like tetanus shots and dental floating, great massage therapist, exercising them, bathing them, sheath cleaning, filling haynets, brushing them, taking care of their medical needs (giving meds/first aid as well as having two great vets just a text away), wormer, fly spray/gel in the warmer months, providing salt/mineral licks to use at their leisure, taking them for walks, giving them lots of love and affection?

What do you feed your horses?

Depends on the time of year, the weather, any health needs and of course, their weight. Currently, I give them a probiotic fibre mash with all their supplements and a handful of chaff as the grass is a bit frosty so they need a lil extra. They have a big bale in the shelter that they can nibble at as they like also :)

How do you celebrate Christmas where you live? Do you have any regional foods, traditions etc.? 🎄🎁

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Yeah there are some odd regional traditions.
🔔 In Dewsbury they start ringing a church bell (the bell that Black Tom de Soothill once presented the church with as penance for murdering his servant) at 10am and therafter once for each year since the year 0. This must be a nightmare for local residents.
🏰 From Clifford’s Tower in York they hang mistletoe, if a woman stands underneath it it means she wants to be kissed by anyone passing by. (You’re still allowed to fire crossbows in York by the way, providing that you’re shooting at a Scottish person. Conversely, 45 minutes away in Hull, crossbows have been banned since the 1500s.)
🎼 In Dungworth xmas carols are only sung by locals in a local pub ever since carolling was banned in churches hundreds of years ago by Puritans. There’s also a local pub we used to go to for meals (its name escapes me, I think it’s in or near the village of Goodmanham, where a Temple of Odin lies buried beneath the local church) that does public carolling in the pub, and I wonder if this is rooted in the same tradition. Furthermore, the Yorkshire villages of Castleton, Oughtibridge, Bradfield, Ecclesfield and Worrall all have a 200 year old tradition of pub carol singing, and all have their own Christmas carols unique to that village.
🐴 Every Christmas Eve in Richmond marketplace a person wearing a horses head is sung to by a group of huntsmen who then ‘bring it to life’ with hunting sticks and a horn.
🌞 In York Every 21st December (usually the date of Yule or the Winter Solstice) the Sheriff is accompanied around the city by the York Waits playing music. The procession ends with a speech at the Mansion House.
🐠 On Boxing Day at Flamborough Head, eight fishermen perform a sword dance on the high street.
💈 On the common land of Beverley Westwood at Solstice Dawn or Dusk (winter and summer) , local Morris sides often meet to dance at The Black Tower, weather and other restrictions permitting. I have been to this myself, and danced at dawn. Beer and music is to be had in a local pub afterwards.
🍎 During the Christmas Day service at Ripon Cathedral, visitors and parishioners are each given the gift of an apple, a custom that began in Mediaeval times.
⚽️ In Scarborough on Boxing Day the 150-year-old tradition of Firemen versus Fishermen having a football (soccer) match on the beach continues. (I do not know if women can be members of either team, something for me to investigate).
🔥 On 31st December a Viking Fire Festival takes place at Flambrough, with fireballs and the traditional burning of a Viking longship, something that’s practiced in a number of towns in the UK with Viking heritage.
🦃 This year as you tuck into your turkey, give thanks to William Strickland, born on the Yorkshire coast, who brought the bird back to England in 1526. It became a popular Christmas food during the Victorian era.
🧀 for over 100 yers now, Yorkshire folk have enjoyed a slice of cheese with their xmas cake

Is horse racing a cruel sport?

Yes, for the most part. There are a few people in that industry that actively try to find the best homes for horses that aren't in the best shape anymore or aren't "fast enough" but sadly a lot of them end up being shipped abroad for meat when that's the case or shot and killed due to broken limbs. I've met a few ex racers at work and they have many behaviour/health issues :(

Have a lovely weekend Nat, anything planned or you still ill? 🤗

Bearhead01’s Profile PhotoGilbert Thomas
Thank you! You too :)
I am still struggling with my lungs so not doing too much. I’m off to do the horses in a minute and I’ll be seeing them tomorrow as their massage therapist is out to give them all a spa day. Not a great time for me to be stood out in this weather but oh well 😅 I’m planning on a cosy afternoon as soon as I’m home! What are your plans? 🤗

Say you're going somewhere in the morning, how much time do you usually give yourself to get ready? 👕🚿🕖

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
It depends where I'm going cause I have a tendency to get distracted or for things to start going wrong when I'm focusing on a time I need to leave by. If I'm just going out to work or to see the horses I can get ready in like ten minutes, if I'm going somewhere else or I wanna put more effort in then give me an hour so I have time to get distracted singing and find an outfit I actually want to wear. I will end up switching at least once 😅

What’s on your Christmas want list?

Does anyone else's mind go blank when people ask what you want? I'm going halves with my mum on a new ipad cause my grandma smashed the screen up on my current one and I told her about a couple of jumpers I wanted so those? Outside that I want happy healthy horses (ronnie in particular - the best gift would be him breathing better so he could run round with the other two as much as he used to) It would also be nice for him to give my bank account a break 😂

Are you able to understand your horse's emotions?

Hash10’s Profile PhotoHasham
Not as much with the youngest, I don’t know him as well as we’ve spent less time together and he is very much a cheeky character with a short concentration span so it changes quickly. The other two however I can work out their moods fairly easily or notice the small changes in behaviour or in their habits if they’re feeling off etc 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for Ania, I confirm - she has style, and what about the other names?
I don't know the reason why this is happening, because among my friends, people with the same names most often react similarly in similar situations. So it seems that quite often a name defines a person's character, or a person adjusts to the name he bears

Riddle You have to add 30 horses in 9 rooms but by using only odd number. Like in one room you can add 1,3,5,7 and so on horses. You can't use even number in this riddle. I can bet no one can solve this riddle on ask.fm!!

I added 3 odd numbers horses in 6 room and in 7,8,9 rooms I added 4 horses in each room by using odd numbers
3+3+3+3+3+3+4+4+4:30
In room 1 : 1, 3, 5,
In room 2: 7, 9, 11
In room 3 : 13, 15, 17,
In room 4 : 19, 21, 23
In room 5 : 25, 27, 29,
In room 6 : 31, 33, 35
In room 7 : , 37, 39, 41, 43
In room 8: , 45, 47, 49,51
In room 9 : 53,55, 57, 59

How do you go about doing laundry? Like with how you choose to dry clothes, choice of programs etc. 👕

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
Personally I rather save energy wherever possible!
So I favour doing cool washes, or even wash clothes by hand (some of my clothes, even now the dye comes out a hell of alot!)
Then I'll hang them out on the clothesline outside, weather dependent of course lol. Or they're put on clothes horses inside. For bigger things like towels, they go in the tumble dryer :)

Do you read poetry ?

mjrocowriter’s Profile PhotoMary-Joy Hutch
Not often but occasionally I will do.
There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around That the colt from old Regret had got away,
And had joined the wild bush horses — he was worth a thousand pound, So all the cracks had gathered to the fray.
All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far
Had mustered at the homestead overnight,
For the bushmen love hard riding where the wild bush horses are, And the stock-horse snuffs the battle with delight.

what's the greatest gift one could give ? 🎁

arrrby’s Profile PhotoRare Essence
The experience, from tickets to a concert to going to see and ride horses 😍, or it can be simpler and cheaper then that, but the time you spend together is valuable ☺️
The other this is to buy something one would like but doesn’t buy by themselves. For me it’s CDs with music. I would love to have them, but I never purchase them. So when I got 2 CDs from a k-drama I liked to watch at that time, it was very special for me and I loved it ☺️
As you can see, I probably wouldn’t buy it because of the price, but I was happy to receive it as a gift 🎁

What are little things that make you happy?

“I saw this and thought of you”, good morning and good night texts, reassurance in situations that I may be anxious about/uncomfy with, the sound of rain, smell of rain too, hair tickles, forehead kisses, unexpected nice texts or comments, “I miss you or I am proud of you”, when the horses put their noses out for kisses, spending time with my animals, naps, asmr, comfy blankets, my favourite shows, cat videos, when cats lay on you and curl up into you, cuddles, a long relaxing shower and apple flavoured green tea 😊

Did you know hunting unicorns is legal in Michigan? 🤔

edraegen’s Profile Photoʎǝɹɟɟǝſ™
Please don't tell me they use it as an excuse to strap a horn to a horses head and use it for target practice -_-
... so I just googled it, and it's a thing.. which comes with the statement of "the pursuit of the unicorn is a lonely quest, we wish them nothing but good luck!"
... what the heck did I just read! xD
