hi! i've been okay! having fun at my internship (it's a food magazine and there's FREE FOOD EVERY DAY). also, i've been replaying one of my favorite rpg's when i was young. i've played it like 5 times (thrice on the PS1, then twice on the PSP rework) but never quite got around to finishing it. i'm almost finished now though and i'm so excited bc i got the good ending (it has three possible endings, depending on the choices you make throughout the game)!!!

thh - i thought of the basic plot (which is really, really different from the way it turned out) after listening to a couple of taylor swift's songs on shuffle. i don't have a fave character in it hahahahaha. i'm weirdly indifferent to them all.
chance encounters - inspiration came from my desire to write a story that takes place in one night + my feels after reading nick and norah's infinite playlist + my feels towards my dad. fave character is reed, hands down.
windfall - the idea to it was more of an afterthought that i got from thh, when i made kyla tell seth in detail how her parents met. the words literally just came out of nowhere, but i ended up thinking SHIT THAT'S CUTE NEED TO WRITE THIS!!! it was also supposedly my way of slowly stepping out my (teenfic) comfort zone.
nhf - inspiration came from a lot of different things. 1) my frustration with this guy and girl in my group of friends (everyone, even guy, knows girl likes her. girl won't tell guy to his face. there's just--just--just SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION GUYS). 2) my confused feelings when i sorta kinda had a momentary crush on one of my guy bff's. we literally call each other "babe" and never deny it when people ask if we're going out (we're not). we're flirt with each other and everything and i'm pretty sure people do think we're going out/we went out and broke up........ 3) my desire to write a best friend love story. then, this one i only belatedly realize, 4) my need to write about the guy i went out with when i was 16. i screwed it up, for the same reasons hadley screwed it up with dexter, and i vowed i'd never write a story about him but i unconsciously did anyway. fave character in it is sadie. i just really love her.

Why does Hadley have to complicate things? I know she's one tough cookie, but why exactly is she trying to suppress her feelings for Dexter so hard? Also, what are Dexter'a flaws? I haven't caught on because he's too perfect ;)
it's not that she's deliberately trying to complicate things. it's more of an unconscious thing for her. she sincerely believes that she doesn't deserve dexter. she's afraid of getting too close to him bc she believes that one day, dexter will realize he can do so much better and leave without warning.
you don't really get to see dexter's flaws explicitly bc of the pov's. dexter lacks the self-awareness needed for me to show his flaws through his pov, and hadley puts him in a pedestal so he's literally perfect in her pov.
she fails to see how fickle dexter is. dexter falls in love too hard, too quickly, too soon. it's not a flaw so much as a character trait, but dexter's concept of love is very simple: if you like a person, then you like him/her. such was the case when he became infatuated with hadley (as told in a previous chapter). then, again, when he started hanging out with andy. this fickleness only makes hadley's insecurity worse. (and hadley can't even see it as fickleness. she just sees it as him realizing he deserves better--which, for hadley, is ALWAYS the case, bc she literally thinks he deserves the best and only the best).
he's also just as cowardly as hadley. i was glad to find that some readers finally picked up on the fact that dexter's "josh" is andy. hadley started dating josh so she could force herself to forget about dexter. that's what josh is doing via andy. there's a bit of a major revelation in chapters 14-15 and you'll see that dexter hates confrontations just as much as hadley does.
dexter's also way too used to doing things at his own pace. dexter's somewhat fearless in a sense that he usually does things without dwelling on his actions' possible repercussions. when he and hadley were dating, he always brought her along his whims. hadley always goes along (re: ch. 11, when they went downtown), so when she doesn't, it frustrates him. (re: when they argued about him meeting her parents--she wasn't ready, and he knew that, but he went ahead and introduced himself anyway bc he believes things will work out in the end bc for him, they always do.
that self-assurance could be considered a flaw too. he's very self-assured, which makes it hard for him to actually understand people who have no self-confidence at all.
idk man. try reading the upcoming chapters with a fresh set of eyes and i'm sure you'll see how it's not just hadley who's making #dexley sink.
