honestly i came up with the idea bc whenever my friends and i go drinking, 2 of my friends always become so touchy-feely and flirty with each other once they get drunk. (we're all aware they have feelings for each other, but they refuse to admit it to each other bc #friendship).
then one time i was wondering, what if they get so drunk they end up kissing??
better yet, what if they get so drunk they end up having sex???????????????
and then i thought up a basic plot. it was originally just supposed to be about 2 friends who have drunken sex and are forced to act all awkward around each other. then for some reason, it evolved into ex-turned-best friends bc i wanted the characters to be flirty and familiar with each other.
if you notice the dedication found in the extended summary, though, you'd see that i'd dedicated the story to a certain "you." this is because while i was planning nhf, i somehow (unconsciously) ended up basing hadley's reasons for breaking up with dexter on why a certain guy and i didn't work out. coincidentally, this guy and i also remained to be very, very good friends.
so when i finally realized this, i figured i might as well base a lot of other stuff from it.
i started writing nhf bc i wanted to explore the dynamics existing in ex-turned-friends stories, and once you read the upcoming chapters, you'll see this manifest bc there will be #feels in every update. i am not kidding.

My parents took me for my first birthday long ago, but we haven't gone back since. We don't have the time or the money to go again. :( Have you visited the US? Haha, I feel so honored to be like Hadlet. I wish I had a guy best friend like Dexter, but my friends are more than I could ask for. :)
how old are you??? and nope, i'd never been there, so i'm actually very very hesitant to step out of the thh universe. rivermount (the fictional town where all my stories are set) keeps me from having to worry about butchering anything, setting-wise.

AHHHH thank you so much!! it really means a lot to me bc i honestly don't think i'd ever been as invested in any of my other characters as i am in dexter and hadley so every ounce of support i get for nhf makes me feel incredibly giddy. <3

What one thing would you do to change the world?
see, here. changing the world cannot be accomplished by just /one/ thing and /one/ person. the problems we see in society are all connected to one another, from a students' struggle to pay her tuition to the underpaid contractual worker in a factory with little to no safety hazards. there is a distinct disparity between the rich and the poor because the poor keeps getting poorer while the rich gets richer at the expense of the poor.
the problem of poverty isn't a problem in lack of wealth--it's a problem in the distribution of wealth, and this distribution is influenced by a lot of factors that all lead up to the same systemic problem: severe capitalism.
capitalism urges people to:
- be self-sufficient, self-preserving, self-indulgent.
- strive for a "successful" life where success = becoming rich, or, for already wealthy people = becoming richer
- breed individualistic thought, where one shouldn't care about the homeless man on the street bc "he wouldn't be homeless if he has a job" (PEOPLE, NO. he wouldn't be homeless if he didn't live in a society that promotes anti-poor norms, where a man needs to be educated to get a job, and be "successful"--and when education comes at such a high price, more opportunities are further taken away from the poor.)
every issue in our society should not be separated from our class struggles (class as defined by marxists), and changing the world for the better is impossible unless people let go of their individualistic desires for more inclusive, collective hopes for elevating people as a whole.
the only way to change the world is by convincing everyone that there is a need for change.

ahhh sim!! i've always wanted to go to the uk. show me around someday ;) also, yup, it'll only be distributed in bookstores here in the philippines, but there's always shipping and stuff. (still, i'd actually advise against buying it bc it's... 70k words or so less like honestly they cut out the prologue, which is probably the most decent part of it, and i wouldn't want anyone wasting their money when the actual, full (albeit raw) version is already up and free to read)

(if it wasn't obvious already, i have a fear of being grouped up with strangers)
