How much experience do you guys think you should have before you go and get a thoroughbred possibly off the track. I mean what things should you know how to do. I want to get into evening but don't have enough money to go buy a $6000 eventer.also I want to learn and get experience also.
If you want to get an OTTB you should probably have experience working with green or unbroken horses. Even then you could still be unprepared, especially if you are getting the horse straight off the track. OTTBs are used to living and being handled a certain way and if you don't understand them or aren't working closely with a trainer who has experience retraining them it might not be a good idea. If you want to learn and gain experience you would be better off leasing a horse that has some eventing experience if you can't afford to buy right now.
