Lebih susah Mandarin karena Jepang gak pakai nada. Lagian kalau kamu belajar Mandarin, kamu bisa sekalian belajar Bahasa Jepang karena struktur kalimatnya lumayan mirip dan Kanjinya Jepang pun banyak yang sama kaya Hanzi Mandarin (karena awalnya memang dari Cina), cuma beda cara baca aja, tapi artinya sama. Contoh Zasshi (Jap) = Zazhi (Chi) = Majalah. Toshokan (Jap) = Tushuguan (Chi) = Perpustakaan, etc.

Keduanya punya keunikan dan tantangan tersendiri sih, tapi karena gue sempet belajar dua-duanya, I would say Chinese is more difficult karean pemakaian nada, dan cara baca yang berbeda dari tulisannya. Contoh "Zasshi" (bahasa Jepang) diucapkan selayaknya orang Indonesia ngomong "Zas" + "shi", tapi kalau "Zazhi" (bahasa Mandarin), dibacanya bukan "za" + "zhi", tapi "ca" + "che".

Anak Sastra Cina suka gatel kalau denger orang nyebut "Beijing" untuk ibu kota Cina, karena harusnya diucapkan sebagai "peicing".

Keliatannya rumit banget ya? Tapi semua diajarin di semester awal kuliah sih. Seminggu pertama kuliah Mandarin, ibarat senam lidah, karena lidah kita harus jago muter di mulut, kadang harus menibulkan bunyi desis ketika lidah nempel di belakang gigi, nempel di langit mulut, atau agak sedikit ditekuk ke belakang untuk menghasilkan nada yang benar. Pokoknya kalau kata dosen, ucapan kita belom bener kalau lidah kita belom pegel awalnya (karena lidah masih kaku).
