I did not make a sweeping statement that all the entries in the MMFF are trash. The only thing I said was people seem to perceive that movies in this festival are more about their entertainment and money-making value, and by that, I mean, the festival as a whole and just the current one. I also said people may find the latest entries dull and uninteresting but their sentiments might not be necessarily true. By that, I mean they already have this pre-conceived notion about these movies, but that could be wrong because some of these films might actually be very much worth watching pala.
Key words there are “percieve (perception)” and “not necessarily true.”

why do you think the films at mmff isn't that worth watching anymore

Movies there are perceived to be geared more towards having entertainment and money-making value than actually having a depth in storyline, and mostly follow the same formula every year, so more discerning viewers skip those films. I don’t think that’s really the problem with the current MMFF, though, for I think the masses will still troop to cinemas should the likes of Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto have a flick showing in that said festival.
It’s really more about the kind of movies being offered then. It may not necessarily be true, but people seem to feel the current movies being shown in the festival are mostly dull and uninteresting. Add to that the fact that ticket prices have hiked up, and that COVID is still very much around, and people will eventually just watch KDramas and movies on Netflix and other streaming sites, the legal and illegal, instead of enjoying some Tagalog film outside the comfort of home.
To bring back the movie-going public, the MMFF will have to hope COVID will no longer be around come next December, and will have to rely on those tried and tested commercial films starring our more well-known stars anew. The latter sounds unappealing but the fact remains true, people will still watch those usual fantasy and comedy movies especially since it’s a family holiday. Of course, if we hope to uplift the current state of our local movie industry, producers and film makers will have to come up with better stories and ideas, and at the same time, find a way to make it appealing to movie watchers so that their efforts and investment won’t go for naught.

With the pandemic limiting activities, I guess the most interesting thing that I’ve experienced last year was me officially assuming the position of club assistant secretary of this socio-civic fraternal organization I’m a part of at the start of the year, right after our elections the previous month, reluctantly taking over the position of secretary a few months later after its original holder went on to take over the vacant vice-presidential post, then getting voted again on December as assistant secretary for 2022 despite the fact that I was really just hoping to be an ordinary member and not hold any post anymore.
