Aren't you a mod though? I understand where you're coming from, but that's no reason to give groups like this one a trusted status, despite being clearly unworthy of it.

I usually only participate in decisions involving English groups.

Exactly. Obviously, these people have no idea what the fuck they're actually doing, but still somehow got a trusted status.

don't look at me
but frankly if every non-english group had to be thoroughly reviewed before getting trusted I imagine precisely 0 would get it simply because we don't have the time, resources, or native speakers of their language to check

I find it funny that these comparisons are almost never created by people trying to expose a bad encode but rather by the perpetrators themselves who are somehow proud of their horrible filtering

>it's both a shitty line AND it misses the meaning Yeah, but so does the FE thing I'd say. When Eng-Henry could easily be mistaken for a different character were it not for his name and sprite identifying him, can you really say the meaning was carried over properly from the source material?

Maybe there was a reason they couldn't keep some of the themes portrayed in the Japanese script? Assuming the translation on the right is accurate (which is a pretty big assumption to begin with, admittedly) then I'm pretty sure the original TL knew what they were doing far better than say NISA.

>https://amielleon.dreamwidth.org/201041.html I dunno, this is pretty bad. This isn't translating source material and localizing/changing it as necessary to make it flow better. This is some guy practically throwing out the source material to write his own thing because he thinks he can do better.

This is pretty much standard for dub localisation. They have a translator get down the rough idea and then a team of writers punch it up to be more enjoyable for the end user. You just tend to get a distorted idea of what is "normal" if you spend all your time watching subbed anime. Actual crappy localisation like NISA's Danganronpa 2 are the ones that fail at both points (like having Kuzuryuu say "I can do it" when he's actually saying "I won't hesitate to kill you", or the ch3 boss's "forgive me" instead of "accept me" - it's both a shitty line AND it misses the meaning)
I recommend reading Mato's site, Legends of Localization, at http://legendsoflocalization.com/ if you haven't. There's a lot of interesting stuff there in the script comparisons and Q&A section.
And if you have any doubt, remember that this is a Nintendo property (or at least I assume it's Fire Emblem?) and they have pretty much the highest localisation standards in the business. They're not going to let stuff go out that the original rights holders don't approve of.

how can I apply nnedi3 to a specific frame?

ReplaceFramesSimple or strange? (the filter 'strange' that is)
or by splicing it in with Trim if you really wanna do it the hard way

What's the point of making an X based unit? I just started playing this and I don't understand the stats.

most idols have a center skill that raises one specific stat, e.g. SSR kirarin increases the dance stat of all passion-type idols by 90% and SSR ranko increases the vocal stat of all cool-type idols by 90%
so you get the most out of them by building a unit around that particular stat
this also applies to the guest you choose before beginning the song, i believe

How time consuming is each position in fansubbing on a week to week basis assuming there's an average amount of work to do for each position?

this varies hugely depending on the person and style, but in my experience:
editing: 2-4 hours maybe? some people spend less, some spend far longer
translation: see editing
timing: an hour or two tops
typesetting: can vary anywhere between minutes and days depending on number of signs
encoding: anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours depending on how much effort you put in
qc: anywhere from around an hour to 3-4 hours depending on how much needs to be fixed
as you can see, pretty much every answer is "depending" because the amount of work for each show is wildly variable.

in general, do groups try and counter the the awful contrast correction(?) that happens with a lot of rips when the scene gets bright? opm with the frame full of flames comes to mind. or is it just not worth it to try and fix non BRs like that?

It only happens on TV so it's not really worth it, especially if the levels already got crushed during the process (not sure if they are or not). Broadcasters also tend to ruin the video in other ways that are basically impossible to fix like blending frames during high-motion, high-contrast scenes.

What's your policy on semicolons in subs?

I think they should be used very sparingly if at all. I've used a couple myself but generally they're not needed

Golden Time had atrocious banding, if I recall, so I'm pretty sure it's the publisher (King Record Company Limited).

Probably something like that

Why do White Fox shows have terrible banding? I'm starting to think it's not a publisher's issue.

I'm pretty sure it is, unless Hamaou and Jormungand had it too and I didn't notice

Xythar-sama, how do I make the subs appear when taking screenshots with xysubfilter?

i don't use it, so i have no idea!

What is your take on the "all anime is trash and cancer, but we watch it regardless" attitude of people in the fansubbing scene? Like seriously, if it's trash then just stop fansubbing and let us all enjoy cartoons.

I don't really have a take on it because I don't get mad about other people's opinions on the internet

Would you rather never have internet access again or never be allowed board an airplane again?

The latter, obviously

I saw nekoworks typesetting for Etotama and it was fucknuts, looked like Conkerer's work if you ask me (same with Mao for Wakaba Girl tbh), so I wouldn't be surprised if -you actually confirm us- (WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE) that Lyger/Conkerer are behind this pseudo-group.

They're not

Lyger did say to ask him in irc if someone wants to do the bds. Nekoworks must've just asked him and get the updated scripts like that.

I see
