Haven't felt the need to because it already goes up to 4GHz with turbo boost and CPU time isn't exactly the bottleneck when encoding right now (it's actually getting the stuff uploaded on australian internet)
My previous CPU was an i7 860, lol.

Sure, it's pretty good if you don't mind the length. Felt like a JRPG in anime form.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing that's codified in style manuals, but I'm pretty sure ?! is a lot more common in English than !?. After all, it's an interrobang, not a banginterro.

I've seen the occasional joint with another group (like Rebuild of Evangelion) but as far as I'm aware THORA is basically just an encoder, yeah.

BSS or THORA for Redline? I normally turst THORA, because for the most part their encodes are awesome. Never watched BSS but they got blue on Nyaa.

31?! Wow, that's surprising. How long have you been around in anime/fansub community? Have you ever find them boring and just want to stay away for any thing related for a while?

I was 28 when I started fansubbing, so only three years or so. Not really; it's been pretty entertaining so far.

You were right, th PSG dub is amazing. I think I prefer it to the work final and I FUCKING HATE dubs. Where did you buy the BDs from?

What's your favorite food in Australia?

What, like Australian food? We don't really have much we can call our own. Pavlova is nice, but even that was technically invented by New Zealand, apparently.
I like all kinds of things, but mostly food from other countries, I guess.

I'm relatively new to fansubs and all that, and some terms confuse me. Like, what does it mean to translate a "sign"? And what does a QC do (I think what's what you do)? And regarding typesetting, is it as simple as giving a font a border, or does this include other areas? Sorry for the ignorant Qs.

A "sign" in fansubbing is text that appears onscreen (as opposed to stuff that's spoken). So translating a sign is coming up with a translation for that text, and then typesetting is putting that translation on the screen in a way that blends in or at least doesn't look too awkward.
Typesetting in fansubbing is generally the process of subbing signs in that way. Picking a font, border, etc for the dialogue (or for songs) is usually referred to as styling and is a separate job (though often the typesetter does it as well).
There are a couple kinds of QC, at least in terms of how we work at Vivid:
Script QC: Collaborates with the translator/editor on the script during the editing process to point out problematic lines and suggest alternatives. Can be considered a co-editor of sorts and only really needs English experience since they work on the script itself.
Final QC: Watches the completed script through, checking every aspect of the release (editing, timing, typesetting, keeping an eye out for any encoding issues, making sure the subs are placed appropriately and don't overlap with onscreen text, etc). Needs to be familiar with every aspect of the fansubbing process so they can spot and fix issues with every aspect.
When Devana and moo do QC they usually do script QC and when unanimated and I do QC we usually do final QC. I try to do a final QC pass on everything we put out, but I primarily work as an editor and encoder. I can also fill in for timing and typesetting when needed, but I'm relatively slow at both.

Well, those groups tend to follow a rather different philosophy than Commie. You should pick the group that suits you.
