and it's worsened by the fact that the better translators know their limits and won't try unless they can do a good job, but the worse translators have no such qualms, so they're the only ones you see releases by anymore
not much i can say except to only download from reputable groups, unfortunately

but that's their policy and they're free to dictate it, just as we are ours
the ultimate evolution of "oh just give it to whoever in one person's opinion is slightly better" is that we'd have to re-review every other week because a new BD group decided to one-up the other by fixing one line or updating one sign or adding dual audio or whatever else. and what's then stopping the previous group from "fixing" one more thing, and so on? it would be ridiculous.
much like with the carry-over of A+ between seasons, once A+ is assigned, it has enough inertia that we will only re-review it if the original group's release has significant issues. you say "the best" but that's often entirely subjective, especially when it comes to changes like Coalgirls' edits to Owarimonogatari.

That really doesn't sound right that the original subber calls who gets Blu-ray A+. I thought A+ was about who has the best release.

from what i could see of the edits to ep1, we would still need someone to check it. basically ask fnord not me because unless the original product is severely flawed, that kind of A+ handover is usually only done with the original subber's approval - it was originally handed out on the basis of their work, so they should get final call, in my opinion.

anastasia, mostly. would also be nice to have onsen chieri but she was truly limited and isn't coming back. i'd be happy with kanako or takumi too because they're good characters and i could use a spare healer SSR for those types

yes, so for all intents and purposes it's lossless if you convert it correctly (eg with eac3to and the ArcSoft decoder). I remember doing that for the Psycho-Pass BDs, which is why I included FLAC with the 1080p.

Heard of the translations for Yu-Gi-Oh games? Some of them like Nightmare Troubadour are legendarily bad, while others like the later DS/3DS games reek of laziness.
