What are you liking so far this season?

Wait, out of new shows that just started? Uh

I just looked on their (GJM) Twitter and they said their TL was too busy. I wish they would pick up another show or just do a CR edit, I was interested to see how they do. Do you know who actually founded the group? There are a few names I recognize, but others I don't.

Fyurie, I believe

Geez, 4-5 hours for 12 min show. That's more than the average full length shows.

To be fair, it had as many lines as some full length shows (250-300 on average iirc). But yeah, I pulled out all of the stops because it was a good show and I liked editing it.

Did GJM die before it even started? I still don't see a release by them.

They just did the PV, looks like. RIP?

Does Vivid have their own capper or do you just use what ever raw gets uploaded to the interwebs?

We don't have an exclusive capper all to ourselves or anything, but we do do our own encodes from transport streams, yeah.

→ as literal as possible, forget about using idioms, you name it. Here in Russia we call them ’говноеды' (lit. shiteaters). So, the question is how long will you bear with people like that? Or have you already accustomed to their groundless criticism and now are able to ignore it?

I already ignore most of it and just post the more amusing stuff. I do like your term for them, though.

Hi there! I'm a russian fansubber. I've subscribed to your twitter account recently and, judging by your tweets about fansub community, fansub gate and stuff, the overall situation is pretty similar to ours: there are a lot of self-declared experts who claim that one should translate →

Seems like that's the case everywhere, yeah.

Is it hard to add personality to chars in anime? I see some people who can do it well in subs, and then others don't. Did you ever have trouble when you first started subbing?

I don't feel like it's gotten particularly easier, but I guess one thing I'd say is to be careful about overdoing it. If you give a particular speech pattern to a recurring character you have to make all of those character's lines follow the format for the whole rest of the show, which can get tedious very fast.
Muromi sometimes took me as long as 4-6 hours to edit a 12-minute episode just because I had about 4 or 5 different speech patterns for the characters.

Which monitors are better suited for photography, video editing, etc?

I'd recommend something with an IPS panel. The Dell UltraSharp series is pretty nice.

Who is editing Shigatsu for Commie? Their staff page isn't loading for me for some reason.

herkz as of this episode because Jing had to drop it due to work commitments.

Any tips on trans-coding series and uploading to nyaa? Should you upload the full series or a episode at a time?

If the full show is out already, please don't do one episode at a time. If not, whatever.
My advice would be to not bother, considering that everything already gets 5 re-encodes as it is and people can just re-encode things themselves for whatever specific application they need it for, but it's not like I can stop you.

You know, putting your groups name in the OP is the last thing to worry about with Hatsuyuki. I mean UTW did it for almost all the shows they did. Hatsuyuki's kfx is shit and hardsubbed, their TL is garbage and their scripts flow like hard shit. Also fonts suck.

Yes, but all of those things aren't as snappy a response as a single image.
(Also I meant more the laughable typesetting in general and the way they somehow decided to un-translate a logo that was already in English).

Have groups ever gotten trusted for one show, but not any of their other releases? How does the system work on Nyaa?

It'd be theoretically possible to set trusted manually for a particular show, yeah, but usually if a group is good enough to get trusted for one show they're good enough to have it for everything.
There's no hard criteria but we usually expect some level of basic competency and a decent number of releases (unless they're already offshoot of a group that fulfills this criteria and we know we can trust them already, e.g. caffeine).

Does Vivid recruit at all? Maybe translators if nothing else?

I'm not opposed to it, but there's usually not much reason to. We have picked up a few staff over the years, but I don't want to turn it into some huge operation.
Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to find translators that meet the standard we've already set for ourselves, but I certainly wouldn't mind having a few more.

>Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be handled by quality groups like Hatsuyuki and Chihiro. Don't even joke about that, no one picked up World Break and CH is probably never going to finish Absolute Duo ;_;

Both of those shows look terrible so I feel like you're not really missing much

The funny thing about Hatsuyuki is how they pick up all these shows and soon after that start stalling or never finish the shows... AND THEY DON'T EVEN ADD MEMES! ...When will you let them join cartel, cast leader-sama?

Hopefully never

Why are you forgetting superfast and reliable scribbles?

If you habitually watch only the first half of each show you pick up then they would be a solid choice, yes

>Either someone else will handle operations or it'll mostly just be BD stuff. But then who'll sub all my shitty seasonal harems? Also Eien seems to do most of the BD stuff or something.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be handled by quality groups like Hatsuyuki and Chihiro

What do you think of Herkz editing?

It's usually fine? I haven't actually watched that many shows he's edited, but I don't remember having very many complaints.
