Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai from scribbles or watashi? watashi said "So yeah, this release uses the scribbles TV scripts but is quite heavily edited" imo it sounds like "We removed all memes." Why memes? Because it's scribbles.

I don't recall scribbles really having much in the way of memes, but I would go with Watashi for at least the episodes they've done.

I never have had a problem getting the gist of bad subs or scanlations. Even in cases of mistranslations you can figure out what went wrong most of the time. Don't get me wrong, it's no excuse for bad subs, but instead of sitting there and moaning the whole day, I rather enjoy the content.

I guess? I'd rather try and read it in Japanese because at least then you learn something

Crymore-like site that lambasts bad scanlations // that would be useless if the reviewer's English is as good as D_S'...

Or his Japanese, more to the point
I think translation reviews are the one way a fansub/scanlation review site would actually be useful, but it's a lot of work so I can understand if nobody's willing to put the time into it. I wrote all of four reviews for NRR before I decided I was well and truly done.

Also which are the fansub groups that do this? I don't really mingle with "the community" so I don't know their reputations.

No one who's still around, really. I would basically just be wary of Hadena, Watakushi (not Watashi, who are fine), random no-name subs, and anyone else XiaYixuan translated for.

Looks bad. Do you know if there is a Crymore-like site that lambasts bad scanlations? That would be interesting to read.

shark0week0 had a blog where he reviewed bad scanlations but I don't think he kept it up for very long.

I mean, it sounds like you'd need to know Japanese to be a *good* translator. But could you fake your way into seeming like a mediocre competent-ish translator without speaking Japanese?

Depends on who you're trying to fool!
Judging by the popularity of scanlations, it's apparently not too hard

You could go at it with a dictionary and a grammar (and the internet should those fail you).

You can't translate with just a dictionary because it won't give you the cultural knowledge you need to correctly interpret the language. At best, a dictionary is only useful for supplementing your vocabulary, and you should be using a Japanese to Japanese dictionary anyway. J-E dictionaries are strictly for learners like me.
In short, there's no substitute for experience. There's no shortage of bad translations made by people who think translation is simply a mechanical process of converting words and grammar from one language to another without cultural context - please don't add to them.

Do you have to speak Japanese to translate anime?

I'm not sure how you would do it otherwise short of second-hand translation from other translations (which is general not a good idea)

Why are all your questions such shit?

Because people haven't been asking me good ones. Be the change you want to see in my questions list

What's the difference between remorse and repentance?

repentance has more of a sense of doing something to make up for the things you regret, I guess?

Wouldn't the BDs be the perfect chance for you to finally watch it?

I watched the original show, though. That's where I'm coming from here.

Do you have any plans on saving the Evangelion BD's (mux some dubs from other languages in it)

Nope. I really don't care for Evangelion at all, sorry.

changing to colorful, huh?

yes, we did that from ep2 onwards in the subs but I never got a chance to update ep1

Is there not a BD release for Hyouka with Commie's subs? I might shift those onto Coalgirl's release. Do you know if they have the best encode for the BDs?

There isn't, no. And meh, it probably doesn't matter. Kyoani shows are generally good enough at the source that they're hard to screw up in the encode stage unless you use stupid filtering and Tenshi isn't that dumb.
If you do, please use this script for ep1: http://privatepaste.com/c54d43227a
I meant to put out a v2 but never got the chance. It fixes a lot of stuff. You'll probably need to run the font collector too.
