Is Hi10p really THAT important for trusted? Even if the 8-Bit looks fine too, the TL is good and TS/Timing is also nice?

It's a good way of proving you have enough sense to not literally be using five-year-old technology

That anon needs to look at CGi's Gochuumon release. The ducking BD release had way more banding that vivid-taku's TV version.

Yeah, frankly it was inferior to the TV release in several ways. Kirakira's was probably better, but BBT decided not to accept it for some dumb reason.

If you're so bitter about BD groups doing things wrong, why don't TV groups just release BDs themselves?

I've done BDs for quite a few shows - Psycho-Pass, Psycho-Pass 2, Mondaiji, Neptunia, TWGOK, Uchouten, Tari Tari, Twintails, and Symphogear to name a few. But I don't see why I should have to do them for every single show, especially if the TV encodes look fine already or if I don't even like the show to begin with.
Generally speaking, FFF and Commie do BDs for tons of shows. Underwater has also done a bunch and would probably do a lot more if they were less perfectionist about the encoding aspect.

>people will blindly download their releases thinking that they're "better". Yeah and then they mock you for choosing to archive perfectly fine TV releases instead of replacing them all with BDs. I recall hearing some studios change blurays for the worst. Was it shaft?

Subjectively worse, but yeah, it's usually Shaft.

How you feel about caffeine now that their quality has proven to be quite disappointing? Would you still watch their releases?

I am watching them for Mikagura Gakuen already.

Didn't coalgirls fix exhibit A?

Apparently, after people raised a stink about it on the blog. But why would you ever release something like that in the first place?

When two of your examples are from twintails and one is not from coalgirls I don't see anything more than their twintails is suck. Regardless of your opinion on them I hardly see you mentioning anything negative about Sallysubs, Final8, or Deanzel when all have similar or greater issues. Why?

Because people ask me about Coalgirls far more often than those other groups?
The content here is dictated by you guys. Don't act like it's somehow my bias for focusing on the questions I receive.
(Sallysubs sucks, Final8 is dead but used to re-encode shareraws, and I've never heard of Deanzel)

>tfw just checked out Netflix's Sidonia no Kishi and they didn't translate any of the signs and the subtitles were "literally" in the middle of the screen. I'm pretty sure it's not 5.1 either.

That middle of the screen thing does sound odd.

>What would be a proportional amount of hate, might I ask? The shows less than 2 GB/episode usually have minimal to no issues (though their Monogatari Season 2's subs were god awful). Yet you seem to hate on them for everything beyond what would be expected from the quality.

If you define issues solely by filesize, maybe. Here's a radical assertion: filesize actually doesn't matter much at all and the issues lie strictly with all the other problems.
And you know, I do in fact have a chip on my shoulder for BD groups that half-ass their releases, because people still tend to assume BD releases will be better solely based on the video source, which means BD groups had better put in the effort to be at LEAST as good as the TV groups they rip their subs from.
And yet I see shitty encodes (exhibit A: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/108150/picture:1 ), crap, unchecked typesetting (not Coalgirls, but exhibit B: http://imgur.com/a/is80r#0 ), and complete absence of QC or in fact any indication that a single person looked at the episode before shipping it out (exhibit C: http://a.pomf.se/hsbexj.webm )
So yeah, most BD groups are shit, and that includes Coalgirls. And it pisses me off that they're shit because people will blindly download their releases thinking that they're "better", and sites like BakaBT will replace a decent TV release with a worse BD release just because it's BD. Take Upotte!! for example - the original Commie release was perfectly serviceable, then it gets replaced by some incompetently shifted BD release that looks basically the same and uses the same subs except now all the signs are several frames off and look awkward as hell.
So yeah, I wouldn't mind so much if they were just throwing out random crappy TV releases that no one cared about, but if you're going to put out a BD release, either learn how to not fuck it up or just quit fansubbing forever.

Your hate for coalgirls seem disproportional, as if it came from a personal problem instead of a quality problem. So I have to ask, what did they ever do to you?

Put out bad releases, some of which I even watched (would not recommend)
What would be a proportional amount of hate, might I ask? I'll take that on board in the future.

Any idea did FFF use your batch scripts for Aldnoah Vols they already released?

Those episodes were batched ages ago, so yeah

Honestly, unless it's an ecchi or violent show with lots of censorship, I'd almost always just download the TV version from a respectable group rather than Coalgirls' BD version.

Same. Simulcast video sources are often good enough that the BDs make little difference anyway unless the show had lots of censorship or rushed animation.

Do you know who did the translation (as in which company) for Netflix's Knights of Sidonia, and also for their upcoming Nanatsu no Taizai?

No idea, sorry

Okay cool, I'll go with that. Thanks a lot :) Just curious, coalgirls have a number of key staff who seem to work quite independently on their own projects. Does the quality differ significantly depending on who it is?

Yeah, some are better than others, but I'm not sure if any of them are really "good"

I know you will be biased but how does your TV release for NagiAsu compare with the available BDs?

the available BDs are coalgirls, so they suck
CR's video is pretty good already and I don't really have any problem with the TV releases as they stand

Do you know an easy to read Manga (that's not yatsubato) that I can use for practice? More in regards to grammar, I can just look up any words I don't know

Anything shonen. 4koma is a bad place to start tbh.
Also, a dictionary is not the answer to everything, unfortunately.

What do you think are the strengths of each active Vivid member?

We're all pretty good at being awesome
