I was playing Pillars of Eternity, and one of my companions said, "It can't be helped." PoE is widely praised for its writing.

that is actually something people say irl. it's just infamous in anime circles due to memes

In trying to learn Japanese I have been looking up words I don't know as I watch anime, but I can't seem to figure out what is being said in this clip: https://youtu.be/86rYV6naI8Y?t=44 ; when she says 〇なちゅうwhat is the 〇 part? I hear "nokko" or "nakko" but dictionaries fail me. Thanks for your time.

i hear nako but i don't recognise the word, sorry
edit: it's 濃厚 apparently

What do you think about pluralizing Japanese nouns? E.g. senpai->senpais or just senpai->senpai?

occasionally fun to annoy people with

Do you consider games like Flour Night Girl mobages?

that's an impressive misspelling
idk, does it have a gacha you can pay real money to use

What's SHAFT banding?

shaft BDs tend to have a bunch of crappy banding (obvious steps between colours instead of smooth gradients) that can be a pain to fix

Does it annoy you when you see maps that have Australia but not Tasmania?

i honestly don't think i've ever noticed

To the guy who asked about Izetta, someone said their release was better than chyuu's due to proper terminology/German. Not sure script wise in terms of dialogue though. In all honesty, CR TL of the German sucks.

i mean i assume either the dialogue was factored in as well or it was deemed close enough to not matter

Has Nyaa always called blue "A+" on the site? Did it use to be something else?

the official name is and has always been "A+"

Would you ever consider doing Madoka's recaps? Like if you got some free time?

not likely. to give you an idea, rebellion took me a week or two of editing and a solid 6 hours to QC. even if i could just copypaste lines into the recap movies i'd still have to QC them either way.
more to the point, though, it would be far more work for __ar than me and i seriously doubt he wants to encode two more movies with SHAFT banding.

Actually, I'm curious about who typeset Zankyou in Kaylith. I'm a total newbie so I don't really know. But I do know that the shaky "camera" is crazy and every frame needs its own typeset, even for the same sign. I think the typesetter must be a superhuman.

It was conkerer and a few other people I think. You're better off asking Fyurie.
With Mocha it's tedious but not impossible.

Do you know what Kaylith used to typeset signs in Zankyou no Terror, other than Aegisub?

Mocha. It's motion tracking software which you can use to apply tracking data in Aegisub via the Aegisub-motion script.

"Chihiro's (A+) Izetta release", where did they get that? D_S hasn't reviewed that yet. Also, is the previous sentence grammatically correct, or how can it be rephrased?

>d_s

they are referring to the nyaatorrents ratings, where the releases are reviewed by people who actually know Japanese

Haven't started watching, do you know if Chihiro's (A+) Izetta release is better than Chyuu's?

could the demand for smashed avocado on toast be driving the rise in avocado theft in new zealand? are there people trafficking avocados across the tasman? why isn't the government doing anything about it? how long till a member of the avocado enthusiast party is elected to the senate to stop this?

no

If somebody downloaded a poor translation, but enjoyed what they saw, is there anything fundamentally wrong with that?

that's a good question, honestly. like, is it wrong to enjoy ITW's noucome more than the actual show? i dunno. i think if you enjoy it, it's fine, but then it's also a bit dishonest for the translator to present it as an accurate rendition of the original work.
in practice though poor translations are rarely better and people who enjoy them probably didn't expect much to begin with. it's pretty frustrating for someone to watch a bad tl of a good show and just be all "it was okay, but didn't really grab me" because they couldn't understand the story properly.
