What is the difference between "verboten" and "forbidden"? In German verboten just means forbidden, but why have the same word in English?

I couldn't even begin to estimate (though it might be possible to write a script that goes through my logs and counts them). To give you an idea though I have about 2.3GB of IRC logs on my computer in plain text format
